too many characters + broken weapons being permanently unusable make this game kind of annoying. but it's still pretty decent otherwise

you must be different because that guy wanted a fatps2 but you have it already
dvdrws still cost something, your time finding a burning application that is convenient and works, having a drive that can do this, finding a sharpie to write the name on the loose disc you have no more jewel cases for,
setting up an emulator once takes about that long but then you have all the games and your disc laser won't crap out on you or you won't run out of memory cards

In terms of gameplay, its a straight up improvement.
Instead of 6 different characters, its 2 characters that have a Melee and Ranged weapon each, with a "Transformation" to grind for, either a Mech for the boy or Multiple monster transformations for the girl.
Weapons don't vanish when broken and it has the most terrible golf minigame in exist.

you're a gross oversimplification.
Dark Cloud 1 is a tech demo, it was designed around building a village on the fly and being able to explore it, then they added a dungeon crawler to it.
Dark Cloud 2 is a pure refinement of all the concepts that the original game was made around.

2 improves on most aspects, the shitty monster transformation mechanic that opens up in chapter two is absolutely irrelevant though after the one time you have to use it. Combat is improved, dungeons are improved, and the minigames are fun. Though one of my biggest gripes is how fucking long the beginning is, still worth giving it a go. One of the best PS2 rpgs imo.

>fat ps2
good taste, here's the pros and cons and between fat and slim:
FAT pros
>easier to mod
>convenient HDD bay (put an SSD in there)
>get the network adapter while you're at it
>can stand on its end (remember to turn the logo on the disc drive to the side when you do)
>looks fucking cooler than any other console ever
>can put shit on top of it
FAT cons
>slightly older
>louder
>disc drive need a tiny amount of lube reapplied after around 20-25 years to keep it ejecting properly
SLIM pros
>slightly newer
>quieter
>top loading disc drive
SLIM cons
>top loading disc drive can scratch the fuck out of your discs if you arent careful or are unlucky
>harder to mod
>harder to stand on its side without it falling over
>cant put shit on top of it either because of the top-loading drive

the guides are fragmented and spread across multiple sites
essentially you will need:
>a fat ps2
>an official network adapter
>an IDE to SATA conversion kit for the adapter (v cheap on ebay)
>an SSD
>a freemcboot memory card
all i can tell you is that no soldering is required, just a screwdriver
in the end you will have a console worth multiple times more than what you paid for it
