Vehicle/tool building should've been in the Donkey Kong mining/environmental destruction game, and skill trees should've been in the Zelda open world game. Nintendo just puts gimmicks/hooks in games with no rhyme or reason anymore.

That's the issue though... You should be able to make a death machine that doesn't disintegrate after a few hits and can actually do damage to enemies

Yeah, that's my biggest problem with the zonai parts, it's also why mineru is the worst spirit to use, I wish they made a dlc that added a bunch of overpowered parts for people who just want to fuck around
