Are CRTs actually kind of a meme? I recently got one for the first time in about 20 years.

The only thing really good is the motion clarity, but it's pretty subtle and not immediately noticeable on a lot of games. The glow that illuminates the room at night is comfy too but that's it. The graphics I could take or leave. Playing SNES mini on my LCD with scanlines looks just as good, and in some ways better because of no geometry issues. I also can't help but notice the sound is better. Maybe my CRT speakers are just aging or something.

I don't know. Using a CRT is fun but it just feels like I'm clinging to the past. After going so many years without one, it doesn't blow my mind as much as I thought it would.

Anyone else?

I remember the crappy crts I had growing up that would give a little static shock if you touched the screen

The point of CRTs is to take pictures your setup to show other CRTrannies. You're not actually supposed to play the game. Why do you think every pic posted just shows the title screen or first level?

Old games are better on CRT

The biggest advantage is minimal input lag, but newer LCD screens have started to catch up with CRTs in this regard. Still, there's a good chance that the input lag on a CRT will be considerably less than your LCD television or something...
Some consoles won't take advantage of this, though. The SNES has high input lag by default, and the N64 is a total disaster in this regard. You'll see the difference better on your PC, and only if your LCD monitor is bad for gaming.
The motion clarity on CRT is superior to anything on the market today, including OLED.

CRT is ideal for old shit (6th gen and before) since flat screens either have dogshit composite support or don't have it at all, getting a good middle-man converter is also unreasonably pricey. The only caveat with CRTs is that they're fucking massive and heavy unless you go for a puny small one.
This is just my stance for hardware, if you're emulating do whatever you think is best.

The crazy thing is, SNES mini on my LCD smart tv has no input lag. I tested it side by side with my CRT, and Mario jumps and lands at the exact same moment.

What's annoying however is that there's a slight millisecond of sound lag, so for example the jump sound effect is slightly off.
