This series relied so much on secrets, playground rumors, and being a kid with an active imagination. The internet killed the former two, and growing up killed the third.

With all of that stripped away, all that's left is a pretty barebones JRPG that's outclassed by every other JRPG series on the market.

I still sometimes replay some of the older games since the new ones are horrible. It's just fun to collect your own team of friends and go on an adventure. Yeah it's not deep, still fun. Everything made past 2013 or so ranges from bad to embarrassingly terrible, sadly.
