Spider Mastermind is bar none, the weakest enemy in ALL of Doom
>Humongous hitbox you can shoot while remaining out of sight
>High painchance meaning you can stunlock her hard
>Ooga booga hitscan so you can lure her inaccurate shit to cause large infights on a single mastermind, who loses a lot to fodder enemies
>Just slightly stronger than a chaingunner and even then it loses points due to its size and lack of immediate threat
one SSG or even SG shot can have a decent chance to flinch her all while you only take chip damage, meanwhile a cyberdemon jumpscares you with something that kills you even if you have 100/100 in hp and ap, a chaingunner is small so you can fit two in a room to have Spiderdemon's DPS but better. In fact you can fit like 8 chaingunners in the same radius as a mastermind's hitbox.

And legacy of rust proves size matters, mindweaver being a tiny mastermind ramps the fuck up out of the threat level of that enemy type all the while a SM can only be good if you pamper her up by not giving the player good weapons and high ammo as soon as she sees you and has to be the only enemy around lest it starts infighting.

My guess is maybe whatever they had planned for this cut magic attack would have mad it a much more interesting enemy. Maybe something that would have forced you out of cover so it could shoot you? Im guessing at the time they just ckuldnt figure it out on from a technical standpoint and ship it as is leaving it a bafflingly weak final boss thats inferior to the one that came before it.

It's something like 19/20 times the cyber wins.
Pain chance getting triggered on the Cyber repeatedly due to the chaingun can stunlock the cyber long enough for a spider mastermind win.
