The original game's combat benefitted from its limited mobility by making you have to consider what the best weapon for the job was. It made each encounter feel almost like a puzzle. In every game after you just spam strafe jump and use whatever. It made combat mindless. Strafing ruined this series.
Only the first Ratchet game was good and maybe Size Matters was a silly kind of fun as well
>>715410836 (OP)In the original game you could just spam devastator if you wanted. What killed it was weapon upgrades, as well as weapons becoming more conventional guns rather than tools with a purpose
>>715410836 (OP)I agree 100% I also played 2 without strafing mostly and 3 used it sparingly. By Deadlock it was a full on third person shooter and remains one today it just sucks.
>>715410836 (OP)yup yup, strafing was the worst mechanic to ever be added to the series. 1 was challenging with good platforming, a good story and an amazing yet challenging final boss. 2 had some great things but other than that the rest of the series kinda sucks because of strafing
>>715410836 (OP)I played 2,3 and deadlock before 1 and I agree.
It forces you to be more play smarter without strafing.
That said I don't think 2 is that bad because you have to press the button to strafe rather than autostrafing that was introduced later.
While yes, series did devolve internally mindlessly strafe jumping spam with zero thoughr, Ratchet 1’s combat was not good either. In First game all you did was either run directly at enemies holding down shoot button with a rapid fire gun, or stand a distance and shoot them with something long range before they even noticed you.
