It's great. I think it gets scapegoated a lot because it isn't an RPG like the other two games. And then it was even worse when we got Sticker Star after that, so it feels like we were robbed of a third good RPG game.
Regardless, still a great game.

People only disliked it because it was nothing like the first 2, but the later games are nothing like the first 2 anyways and this one's at least a good platformer.

The gameplay is too simple and can be hilariously easy if you know what you're doing, seriously that Carrie + Bowser combo makes you nearly invincible, but it has arguably the best Pit of 100 trials implementation due to how fast you can breeze it, too bad the fucking copypasted it and you have to do it again for a rather lame true final boss.
Story is great tho, def one of the better written stories of a Mario game even if it's super simple.
