Why does fantasy underutilize this era? It's got kino of the highest potential, and a scale that'd be possible to portray properly.

It's the most videogamish in terms of potential gameplay elements with progression from neolithic societies into Ancient era ones with aqueducts etc being a good basis.

It also isn't well documented which makes more mystical elements to draw from rather than 14th century bohemian autists shit flinging about a games historical accuracy.

Nuraghes in Sardinia, theres evidence that used some technology that wasn't present again in making them until castles of the medieval era.

Because fantasy got firmly shoved into the middle ages. If dev want to shake things up they can always easily add different fantasy races or biomes or whatever without any fundamental changes. If they feel particularly fancy, they can go back to Greek mythology or precolonial Mesoamerica.
When people think about ancient times, they think caves/mudhuts/small vilages, and that lends itself to survival crafting games more than anything. And vidya cavemen in particular are more likely to deal with strange alien tech and dinosaurs than magic or dragons.

People say this and it's a commonly accepted opinion, but you can probably on one hand how many games actually take place in MEDIEVAL period with all the norms that entails. Simply having castles, knights and peasants doesn't make the setting "medieval fantasy", but most of the writers are Americans so we're fucked.

all of the worldbuilding i do is always bronze age stuff. idk why but it just fascinates me way more than medieval shit. maybe im just burned out on that sort of lotr/d&d kind of fantasy setting but i have zero interest in it now

Well, it's fantasy, so you don't have to explain shit. You can put blacks or lesbians in it, doesn't matter as long as there's dragons, elves and no guns. Japanese writers care even less, slapping together a bunch of periods together plus adding some modern magitech appliances.
