You don't get to grab the inputs when you need them, so optimization consists of increasing the speed and hoping nothing breaks and building long belts to act as a buffer.

In 2022 we stopped working for them and started a new studio called Coincidence, which we own and run as a sort of co-op that allows us to work on projects together, or not together, or anything in-between. (By "we" I mean the five of us who made all the Zachtronics games from SHENZHEN I/O onward; the team was much more dynamic before that, as described in the first few pages of ZACH-LIKE.)

Yeah I just got done with my first year teaching. Loved all of my experiences as an intern in college teaching, but then I got my first actual teaching job last year and the admin bullshit is unavoidable and soul crushing. Constant nagging, messaging you to do shit outside of work, petty gossip about everyone behind their back, always passive aggressive, forcing shitty practices onto the classroom and making you deal with the consequences and explain to parents why their child is actively getting a worse education, etc. I love working with the kids but I regret getting an education degree.

It's not the worst job ever, and most of the horror stories are from people who have no business teaching and can't control a classroom but the entire system is pretty shit. In many districts including mine we can't fail students if they show up and they know it, so around half of them do absolutely nothing and sleep all day and get pushed through with a D. The job is extremely easy though and I get a ton of time off so I don't really give a shit.

Because for some reason failing students is seen as the school failing, so the school gets their funding cut. And then there's asshole parents who complain that their child is a perfect angel who would never be failing and the school must be wrong.
>>715442639
A few reasons:
>Better to just pass them and push them along so they GTFO of public school and stop being our problem.
>Parents don't give a shit as long as little timmy is getting his free breakfast/lunch and is at daycare for 8 hours a day.
>More and more kids are showing up to middle/high school with NO skills they should have learned in Elementary school and we're not able to both teach them the basics they should have already known and still teach to the rest of the class so we let them sit quietly and pass.
>Huge number of kids don't speak English and the staff that are supposed to be helping us with them are never there, so we just look at whatever they scribble on their paper and give them a C or B.
>Huge number of kids have disability paperwork (IEPs) and we're legally supposed to provide them extra supports. If they fail even with those supports their parent can still go nuclear on the issue and accuse us of breaking the law so administration leans on us to pass them.
>General apathy. The pay is shit and nobody up the chain of command seems to give a shit so why should the average teacher?
It's a fucked up system but I'm talking about maybe 30-40% of students in any given class. The rest are at least retaining a basic level of information or putting in some level of effort.

All Zachtronics games are freestanding. Exapunks borrows some ideas from TIS-100, but so does all of them from others. You can play Exapunks first it doesn't matter. IMO Exapunks is the most underrated Zachtronics game. It's theme. setting and visuals are really damn great. TIS-100 is much more minimal game. It's still pretty good, but only if you enjoy pure, distilled zach gameplay.

It's an acquired taste.
But in all honesty, if anyone likes to explore weird, obscure games, I can fully recommend it. This game presents itself like a joke like some shitpost, but there is some really clever ideas in there and the amount of content is fucking huge. There is some videos that go into more detailed analysis, but I would recommend to play it for few hours blind to get a feel of it.

And btw, it is essentially the same engine as infiniminer. Zach actually worked on several voxel based games and he wasn't doing it alone. After Zach gave up on infinifactory and went to make Zachtronics, the guy who was working with him on these games continued to do so for many years and that's where Fractal Block World comes from.

The worst part is if they do go to college, it's pretty much the opposite where they'll kick you out of class if you don't do your work, mark you as absent, then have you booted from the class after three absences. This pussyfoot handholdy shit completely fucks the students in the long run, but like you said, no one in any level cares so it's hard to fix.
I remember being in a college reading class and struggling to not cringe at how many people were still in the "slowly sound it out one syllable at a time" phase in reading, and any word longer than three syllables was borderline incomprehensible gobbledygook that they would struggle with for almost a full minute.

This is a solution I had for one of the main levels. There's levels beyond this that implement more complex architectures.
The game provides a programmable memory component with a customizable assembler, but everything else is just made from gates.
You can cheese a lot of them with state machines though if you know what you're doing.

It is primarally an exploration game, combat is basic because it's a secondary feature. And the places you're exploring are fractals. The main mechanic is to grow and shrink which changes the whole world around you. Single blocks will seprate into 16Γ16Γ16 chunks when you shrink and re-fuse when you grow, with no upper or lower limit.

charter schools are no different and are more often than not, scams. There is a private industry waiting to capture potentially billions of dollars once the public education system completely collapses. Education should not be, and should never have been for profit. It's for the public good. I'm saying this as someone who got a very expensive private education after 8 years of public.

It is actual programming.
Just not for a real architecture.
It has the same fundamentals as most Assembly. If you can get a sort algorithm running in TIS-100, you have the skill to get one running on a 6502, x86-64, or anything else you could want.

Widget Workshop is way better than Incredible Machine because it actually relies on FACTS and LOGIC
Widget Workshop:
>clearly labeled inputs and outputs
>each item is customizable, can output true (1), false (0), or other numbers
>you can create some interesting tools and basic computers
Incredible Machine:
>abstract interactions that you'll have to see if they work or not
>some items have gravity, some don't
>it's just puzzles

Nah you're right, it's way too easy. Once you figure out the input rate vs. gravity offset, you can just shotgun parts at it and let the system sort itself out. It's less pachinko and more βhope management automation.β Honestly feels like they wanted a puzzle but forgot to include the constraint that makes it one.

With the real thing you have to search for the goal in writing yourself, with a game it is already given and is also given that there'll be some measure or secret to find, which is not certain with the real deal.
For the real thing to do certain things knowledge of other topics would be needed, with a game it's guaranteed all the knowledge needed to progress is within and already shown
In other words, convenience and ease.

Your quest is to find your friend K. You basically traverse a fractal world following trail of breadcrumbs mixed with his progressively more deranged schizo rambling and explore dungeons inside dungeons inside dungeons. The world feels much much larger than of minecraft or hyperrouge. Each dungeon is some gimmick and there is quite a lot of secret locations, stuff to do and weird mechanics to learn and exploit.
AFAIK the guy who made this is just some math teacher, not gamedev, so treat it more like half a game, half a tech demo half a learning tool. Kind of like hyperrouge. But it doesn't mean it's not interesting on its own.

It's 3D in the right way. You can stack things vertically and do some crazy spaghetti, but it's also all on a grid so you can quickly copy paste blueprints like in late game Factorio.
It also has better late game than (non-DLC)Factorio. Building megaconstructions and scaling your factory over multiple systems with multiple planets is way more fun than just hitting some arbitrary science/min goal.

Shenzhen IO has a level in it called "Sandwich Maker" or something similar. Zach's own best attempts at making a solution had him spend one yen more than my new solution, which had never been found before (since it fell outside of the score histogram entirely). I used some really grungy code to cram all of the necessary instructions into one less processor. He got really mad that I had bested him, so then instead of altering the histogram to show my new solution, he reworked the entire level for the next update (which was only a week later), claiming that it was "too hard" for regular players. You can still see this ingame today. If you look through the level list, there should be two versions of Sandwich Maker available to you. Fuck Zach.

I'm teaching math in university, it's not bad.
Schedule is lax, you have like 3-4 days per week where you even have to go to work, and shift is short, you don't have to sit from 9 to 17. You don't have to beg for vacations, every exam period and whole summer is your vacation.
You don't question "Is my work useful? Am I doing harm?" No, you don't.
You don't have to fill your head with boring stuff, like intricacies of some bullshit spreadsheet software. I mean, if I graduated in math, I like math somewhat.
You constantly see new people, while at the office job it may be three same elderly woman every fucking day.
Bureocracy isn't bad at all in my case, but sure, this may vary depending on uni.
Students aren't that bad like you have in school, they are filtered before they get here.

It was invented to simplify calculations. Optimisation trick. With logarithmic tables you replace multiplication with addition, it's a huge deal if you live in a world without computers. Claims were that 'logarithms doubled lifespans of astronomers', something like that. Scottish people will never invent something more significant.
Later it turned out that logarithm appear IRL in some nature laws.

No. It's more like an easter egg. You get a deck of playing cards that are written on and each card is a clue to a puzzle. The first puzzle is finding a secret website that guides you through the deck and is a place to enter the answers. anyway, solve the puzzle and the game devs send you extra components for the board game. Im about half way through the deck. Been working on it onn and off for almost two years.
