Am I missing something or is Infinifactory a terrible Zach-like?
You don't get to grab the inputs when you need them, so optimization consists of increasing the speed and hoping nothing breaks and building long belts to act as a buffer.

It ain't Turing complete yet, but there was enough there to justify the price of admission, in my mind. There's not a lot of handholding and some of the mission descriptors are a bit vague, but I recommend it.

you use the basic blocks as a buffer instead of belts. The material rolls on to them, stops, and waits for the next one behind it to push it forward onto the next belt.

In 2022 we stopped working for them and started a new studio called Coincidence, which we own and run as a sort of co-op that allows us to work on projects together, or not together, or anything in-between. (By "we" I mean the five of us who made all the Zachtronics games from SHENZHEN I/O onward; the team was much more dynamic before that, as described in the first few pages of ZACH-LIKE.)

Yeah I just got done with my first year teaching. Loved all of my experiences as an intern in college teaching, but then I got my first actual teaching job last year and the admin bullshit is unavoidable and soul crushing. Constant nagging, messaging you to do shit outside of work, petty gossip about everyone behind their back, always passive aggressive, forcing shitty practices onto the classroom and making you deal with the consequences and explain to parents why their child is actively getting a worse education, etc. I love working with the kids but I regret getting an education degree.

It's not the worst job ever, and most of the horror stories are from people who have no business teaching and can't control a classroom but the entire system is pretty shit. In many districts including mine we can't fail students if they show up and they know it, so around half of them do absolutely nothing and sleep all day and get pushed through with a D. The job is extremely easy though and I get a ton of time off so I don't really give a shit.

A few reasons:
>Better to just pass them and push them along so they GTFO of public school and stop being our problem.
>Parents don't give a shit as long as little timmy is getting his free breakfast/lunch and is at daycare for 8 hours a day.
>More and more kids are showing up to middle/high school with NO skills they should have learned in Elementary school and we're not able to both teach them the basics they should have already known and still teach to the rest of the class so we let them sit quietly and pass.
>Huge number of kids don't speak English and the staff that are supposed to be helping us with them are never there, so we just look at whatever they scribble on their paper and give them a C or B.
>Huge number of kids have disability paperwork (IEPs) and we're legally supposed to provide them extra supports. If they fail even with those supports their parent can still go nuclear on the issue and accuse us of breaking the law so administration leans on us to pass them.
>General apathy. The pay is shit and nobody up the chain of command seems to give a shit so why should the average teacher?
It's a fucked up system but I'm talking about maybe 30-40% of students in any given class. The rest are at least retaining a basic level of information or putting in some level of effort.

All Zachtronics games are freestanding. Exapunks borrows some ideas from TIS-100, but so does all of them from others. You can play Exapunks first it doesn't matter. IMO Exapunks is the most underrated Zachtronics game. It's theme. setting and visuals are really damn great. TIS-100 is much more minimal game. It's still pretty good, but only if you enjoy pure, distilled zach gameplay.

After Zach gave up on infinifactory and went to make Zachtronics, the guy who was working with him on these games continued to do so for many years and that's where Fractal Block World comes from.

This pussyfoot handholdy shit completely fucks the students in the long run, but like you said, no one in any level cares so it's hard to fix.

I remember being in a college reading class and struggling to not cringe at how many people were still in the "slowly sound it out one syllable at a time" phase in reading, and any word longer than three syllables was borderline incomprehensible gobbledygook that they would struggle with for almost a full minute.

It is primarally an exploration game, combat is basic because it's a secondary feature. And the places you're exploring are fractals. The main mechanic is to grow and shrink which changes the whole world around you. Single blocks will seprate into 16Γ—16Γ—16 chunks when you shrink and re-fuse when you grow, with no upper or lower limit.

Your quest is to find your friend K. You basically traverse a fractal world following trail of breadcrumbs mixed with his progressively more deranged schizo rambling and explore dungeons inside dungeons inside dungeons. The world feels much much larger than of minecraft or hyperrouge. Each dungeon is some gimmick and there is quite a lot of secret locations, stuff to do and weird mechanics to learn and exploit.

AFAIK the guy who made this is just some math teacher, not gamedev, so treat it more like half a game, half a tech demo half a learning tool. Kind of like hyperrouge. But it doesn't mean it's not interesting on its own.

Shenzhen IO has a level in it called "Sandwich Maker" or something similar. Zach's own best attempts at making a solution had him spend one yen more than my new solution, which had never been found before (since it fell outside of the score histogram entirely). I used some really grungy code to cram all of the necessary instructions into one less processor. He got really mad that I had bested him, so then instead of altering the histogram to show my new solution, he reworked the entire level for the next update (which was only a week later), claiming that it was "too hard" for regular players. You can still see this ingame today. If you look through the level list, there should be two versions of Sandwich Maker available to you. Fuck Zach.

I'm teaching math in university, it's not bad.
Schedule is lax, you have like 3-4 days per week where you even have to go to work, and shift is short, you don't have to sit from 9 to 17. You don't have to beg for vacations, every exam period and whole summer is your vacation.
You don't question "Is my work useful? Am I doing harm?" No, you don't.
You don't have to fill your head with boring stuff, like intricacies of some bullshit spreadsheet software. I mean, if I graduated in math, I like math somewhat.
You constantly see new people, while at the office job it may be three same elderly woman every fucking day.
Bureocracy isn't bad at all in my case, but sure, this may vary depending on uni.

No. It's more like an easter egg. You get a deck of playing cards that are written on and each card is a clue to a puzzle. The first puzzle is finding a secret website that guides you through the deck and is a place to enter the answers. anyway, solve the puzzle and the game devs send you extra components for the board game. Im about half way through the deck. Been working on it onn and off for almost two years.
