Single player game:
Do whatever you want, just don't go online and brag about how easy the game is/how hardcore you are.

Multiplayer game:
Kill yourself

Playing Fire Emblem on permadeath mode and resetting after every death is cheating by the way.

Cheating is objectively wrong. If you're not good enough to earn it you shouldn't get it. To believe otherwise is commie bullshit.

Isn't cheating in a video game a crime in Korea or somewhere like that? It should be a crime for the whole planet.

Games journalists really are shit at gaming. If you need to cheat to beat a game, I generally don't value your opinion on that game.

Not that bad in single-player games, many games have that difficulty spike that can ruin your walkthrough if you didn't play it right* before it.

The thing is that they are very useless at the end of the day. Most people get by rot memorization of superficial facts, they will never need like 90% of whatever is taught in the college ever in their life
I think exams must aim to fail the biggest amount of people possible, however it's one thing when education is almost free and an entirely another thing when you are on the clock to graduate as soon as possible because otherwise you will end up full of student debt from loans

Itโ€™s your software, use it how you like. But cheating is stupid, at least in service of making the game easier (โ€œcheatsโ€ that alter fundamental game design are just mods and thatโ€™s fine). Not for any ethical reason, but because a video game is not a job. Nobody is making you do it. You paid money for the privilege of engaging with a made-up challenge, for the purposes of entertaining yourself. If you donโ€™t want to engage with that challenge, just turn the game off. Do something else. Nobody is forcing you to do something that isnโ€™t fun for you. Why would you pay money for a challenge and then deliberately subvert the challenge? What do you gain by doing it?

I was a college teacher up until last year. Things were good and I enjoyed teaching until I reached a breaking point around 2023. I had to quit this year because I lost all passion for teaching when every student had 0 engagement in class and all I did was talk to myself and grade AI papers. If it wasn't for AI I think a large portion of students shouldn't have left middle school. The future is scary.

as a uni student all I can say is that neither students or professors have any motivation left, everyone understands that college just needs money so they are totally fine with churning out people who cheated with AI through all their courses, just like professors use AI too to make presentations and shit because nobody cares really, they get paid for their job and the grads get the piece of paper, god chosen tribes head of a bank gets another student loan, everyone is happy it's jsut that we don't need to pretend that college is used to give you some knowledge anymore

>Is cheating in videogames really that bad?
No.
It was perfectly fine and optional for YEARS until achievement whoring and online functionality because borderline mandatory.
I think the option should be there, at least after an initial playthrough the campaign, in a way that doesn't effect online since so many people take that shit so seriously
I love being able to play a game as intended, and then play in essentially god mode and just racking up the highest retarded scores and annihilating everything stupid enough to cross my path.
If I wanted a challenge, I'd go outside and do normie shit

A fair take, but in my experience, if I put that much stock into what others think, I wouldn't be into gaming like I am today, or at least trying to stay into it. If they wanna be uber 1337, fine, that's their prerogative. As long as you're having fun, what difference does it make?

I mean that is fair as well but there is a reason speedrunning always has those people flexing their cheated times.
And usually they are not even bad at the game, they just want the prestige.
It's absolutely case-by-case.

Of course. I just miss the days when developers would purposely leave cheats in, or create them just for shits and giggles. People who grew up on games since the 80s and 90s might just recognize a certain element of "fun" that's been missing from games since the mid 00s. Not necessarily because of a lack of "cheats", etc , but games just seemed to take on a feeling more like a "product" than a "toy". Who knows, maybe I'm just too much of an idealist, and talking out my ass

I think the worst thing was that stuff like costumes just ended getting shunted to paid DLC or pre-order bonuses for the most part.
