singleplayer wow already exists as multiple mysql projects. its 100% doable.

wow sucks because its online as in ping based. when you play local ping is no longer a factor. the only bottleneck is how fast your computer/brain is.

Azerothcore - you can play vanilla + the entire TBC and WOTLK expansions
Azerothcore also has smarter bots, less bugs and actually gets updates

I thought it was a good example. It was a service, I never liked it, I always thought it should have been designed differently, and to include LAN play, but people bought into it and enjoyed it for like 20 years. SKG seems irrelevant to me, because people loved WoW, and it's not something I could ever see myself playing because I fundamentally hated it.
