I don't even know what compels people to play what they play these days because it sure don't have anything to do with quality. We got 2 games, E33 and Stranding, with 90+ average scores and both only sold 3 millions, the same as FF16. Last year we got 3 games (FF7Rebirth, Metaphor and Astrobot) with 90+ average scores and all of them only sold 3 millions or less. The big sellers were an Early Access game Palworld and mid-ass Wukong... And Call of Duty of-course.

Your other issue is looking at video game journo scores. Astrobot was an astroturfed and purchased success by Sony and pushed by journos. Most people had little interest in it.
