I suspect this is primarily a late millenial problem, people who grew up with gen 6 consoles with perhaps gen 7 consoles in their teenage years and were primed pretty well for later movie games. Earlier millenials grew up playing third and fourth gen consoles that were essentially all about gameplay, and look on those games fondly. The people that shit on and call others zoomers for not liking bloated moviegames have likely never touched arcade games and would get filtered by a lot of Snes and Genesis games.
Zoomers meanwhile have played a lot more indie and mobile games so it seems they're at least more used to purer gameplay games.
