Someone gets a big head over their stuff getting somewhat popular and they abuse that platform sneakily force control over the users. For example, the Left 4 Dead 2 mapper who's custom map overwrites the game's UI and disables several multiplayer modes because he doesn't like them.

That might actually be worse. Every time a Sonic fangame has tried some bullshit like that the dev has gotten run out of the community. The closest thing I can think of that people put up with is Ring Racers profile data being encrypted, but the devs claim that was most just for consistent identification online.
