Is there a speed boost when doing all that? I'm king casual and it seems to be slower than just driving. Also flying is kinda shit.

It's actually not really RNG and that is part of the problem with Mario Kart.
You're guaranteed to get one of like three power items if you're in the bottom positions, which makes bagging so strong.

I get jumping side to side but why can you just do front flips in place for speed boosts?

when your playing 3 lap tracks that you only get to play less than half the time during online then yeah maybe
otherwise its not fun driving in a straight line on the intermission tracks purposely at the back to get good items to win
