It's an okay game with some horrible writing/characters, just like all of Larian's games.

It's the best RPG of all time.

DOS2 has absolutely top-notch
>sense of adventure, immersion, and world-building
>free-form, challenging, open-ended combat with a strong focus on environmental interaction
>deep mechanics, strong strategic elements, and high replayability
>memorable fights against a huge variety of well-designed enemies and bosses in unique scenarios that take part in context of a greater narrative/quest, instead of just being braindead throwaway trashmobs to farm
>tons of classes, builds, spells, playstyles to tinker with
>world design and inter-connectivity
>open-ended and branching quest design, interactivity, and reactivity
>player choice and freedom
>lighthearted writing that knows when to be serious and with engaging companion arcs
>attention to detail, ability to interact with anything, go anywhere, go in any interior, steal anything, kill anyone, story always adapts to your actions

There are many games that are strong in one aspect, and weak in most others. DOS2 is as strong in its weakest aspects as most RPGs are in their strongest aspect. It is just such an incredibly well-rounded game, and it especially excels in open-ended environmental-based combat, player choice and freedom, and interactivity/reactivity that are completely untouched by any other comparable RPG in existence (except other Larian RPGs).

The writing is still above average, especially with the companions, and every single other aspect from combat to teambuilding to exploration to sense of adventure to quest design to interactivity to reactivity to player freedom are absolutely top notch.

There's not even any RPG that comes remotely close.

You must be a fucking retard mutt zoomer

Shut the fuck up and kys retard.

Go on, list some boomer CRPGs that you've never even fucking played with combat not even 1/10th as good as DOS2, that are totally better.

I wish they were RPGs that were better. I've played almost every relevant RPG out there and nothing compares to DOS2.

This. People act like it’s cool to hate on it after the hype died down, but nothing else even tries to hit all those systems at once. Every time I boot up something like Pillars or Pathfinder, I just start missing how smooth and reactive everything felt in DOS2. Combat, exploration, worldbuilding, party banter-it all just *works*. You’re not railroaded into playing a certain way either, which is more than I can say for most “hardcore” CRPGs. If it's a "reddit game," then Reddit finally got one right.

I get filtered by the beach of Fort Joy. It's just so boring.
I'm also turned off by how every origin character is like a group of first time DnD players trying to one up one another in how "cool" their characters are
>Oh, my guy, uh, he was so cool and powerful and gonna be the next emperor, but he um, fucked a succubus and now he's gay!
>Yeah, well my character is a Dwarf named THE BEAST. His cousin is an evil queen and she hates him! He commandeered a pirate ship and doesn't afraid of anything!
>My character is Lohse, she's a world famous bard and everyone loves her, but she's possessed by the evil demon man!
Verification required, but it shouldn't have.

It took a few hours to click for me, but it soon became one of my favorite games of all time.

Also the origin characters are Godwoken, they are meant to be extraordinary. This is one of the first things you learn and one of the core mechanics of the game.

If you're an ADHD zoomer or have an IQ below 100, you will never get it though

Pillars of Eternity was better than DOS2 by a mile.

The only real black mark imo is that the level/item scaling is not handled very well so it means you're at an increasingly massive disadvantage for having your main gear even a single level under your max equippable.

Other than that though yeah it's about as good as it gets for the genre, fantastic game and everyone who like the genre owes it to themselves to play it

I've tried DOS 1 & 2 and BG3. They are all boring to play at best, and cringe as fuck at worst. They feel like high school drama plays that were written by the students who just found out what DnD is

It's fun. The best thing about larisn games is they are old school in the regard of "if you don't like them simply kill them. Yes people will be as mad but who cares"
