It's a bad plot point because nothing ever comes of it. It's pretty much only used to explain why they don't remember each other from the orphanage and then is pretty much never mentioned again. Losing their memories should have been a huge plot point for the rest of the game

It's something that should've had far reaching consequences for every goddamn seed, but instead it's only ever used to explain a single plot point that servers no goddamn purpose anyway in the grand scheme. There was no need for them all to have been raised by Edea. You could have it be only Eleanor and Squall, and just have her original name be something else. Only thing you'd need to change is a different explanation of why Irving pussied out of taking the shot.

I hate it. Even FF8 got boring as I neared the end and had to grind for the final boss. It just feels like more often than not the combat is just there to waste your time while you go from one story set piece to the next and I never find it engaging.

another thing that killed my playthrough was the whole time I absolutely loved Laguna's character and wondered what happened to him. I got stuck on one small part, looked up a guide, and it IMMEDIATELY spoiled what happened to him on the chapter name. it was the one story hook that kept me going even when the gameplay was getting stale.

Does this even matter? He could just shoot anyway and she could block it and have Squall rush her like he does anyway. If anything, this makes him less irredeemable and Edea/Ultimecia seem even more threatening.

True, it doesn't, but in a way Irving not taking the shot because Edea raised him is kind of his own redemption arc, otherwise he's just a huge jobber. If you take that away, you need a different excuse to not assassinate his character. But you're right, it wouldn't really matter because he's barely a character anyway.

In a different story, the GF amnesia plot point would've led to there being entire seed retirement homes filled with what's basically hundreds of soldiers with alzheimers. Fuck, maybe have these act as brainwashed soldiers, no emotions because they've lost their entire persona, and are acting only on instinct.
Imagine if this was what white seeds were, just "elite" seeds that in reality are just the logical end point of abusing GFs. Just imagine what it could've been.

Too shounen for my taste. I like the implication that Rinoa will eventually turn into Ultimecia. The ending credit showcases all the things that she hold valuable, and when you once had something so good, you remain bitter after you lost it, even if you can’t even remember what it was like.
