SSX Tricky has yet to be topped
SSX3 was good too but snowboarding down a mountain really doesn't lend itself to the forced open world shit

>but snowboarding down a mountain really doesn't lend itself to the forced open world shit
you mean the entire appeal of snowboarding? SSX 3 was an improvement on Tricky in almost every way.

1080 is second best; Amped is the best snowboarding game. I used to make cool replays riding with npc snowboarders on altibahn with my xbox's custom soundtrack. SSX is a fine racing game with a snowboarding aesthetic, but it's not a real snowboarding game.

SSX is based on a real sport, and the creator of the games is the guy who invented said sport

I loved 1080, played the hell out of it as a kid.

Do today's kids even get games like that? It's hard to believe games like 1080, SSX and Tony Hawks Pro Skater were huge, cross cultural hits these days.

Steep is pretty neutral when it comes to its menus and narration and all that I dont know what you're on about
i'd actually say stuff like SSX is way heavier on the WHOA RADICAL BROTENDO early 2000s shit

there was like a 5 year period where people did start dying
these days pretty much everyone is training on airbag jumps and dry slopes in the off season
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vkLt-4pflI8
jumps are also better designed now, xl lines are pretty much all built as step ups rather than kickers so even if you completely eat shit off a 60 foot jump you aren't actually falling that far vertically. it still fucking hurts and you can break yourself hard but you are much more likely to walk away. dudes are also wearing armor now like bmxers

Because if you don’t learn on an airbag jump or foam pit first, you’re waking up in the ICU wondering why your pelvis is shaped like a question mark. These days they’ve turned it into a science though - dry slopes, trampolines with boards strapped on, motion capture rigs for trick visualization. It’s like Jedi training for snowboarders now. Still gotta have a death wish to huck a double cork in real life though.
