>Games sequel is cancelled
>Lose any and all interest in playing the first game

Has this ever happened to you? It's sitting in my Steam account right now and I can't work up the energy to play it

why though? it's not like it ended on a cliffhanger or anything, the game stands on its own. whether there's a sequel or not is irrelevant

Because when a sequel is announced, it feels like you have to rush/panic to play the first game before the second comes out.

>Is Slayers X good, at least?

>No. /v/โ€˜s love of this series is pure astroturf. Both it and Slayers X are total Civvianni nerd culture gentrifier garbage full of overtly abusive left-wing politics and ironic Garfield pipe strip bullshit. Set up a Windows 95 VM with 86Box and play some of the games stuff like this and Dream BBQ pretend to rip off instead; theyโ€™re free and a lot more fun.

Stop shilling! It didn't work with Disco Elysium and it's not going to work with this.

I thought the first one was a success, weird that they couldn't afford to make a second one or find someone who'd fund it.

IIRC they did make a good amount of money from the first game and they actually did have a publisher or some group funding the sequel, but it was becoming too large so they came to a mutual agreement to kill it. I believe they were trying to create a fairly robust emulation of the 2002-2007 era of the internet, with a functional working Shockwave Flash player that was built from the scratch. You could make old school Flash animations in it and everything, apparently. I would imagine they were maybe trying to have working pastiches of Neopets or AdventureQuest or Newgrounds or something, but it was just too much.

That sounds like it would've been amazing, I can understand why that kind of feature creep killed it though.

Hypnospace is at least playable, even if it's not very good or interesting. DE is literal commie slop with not a single redeeming feature, unless you're a commie, in which case it's the most important piece of genre fiction in the last 50 years because you're convinced that if anyone just plays a bland propaganda title they will throw off the shackles of capitalism and seize the means of production.

Hypnospace belongs to the same category as Undertale, a dogshit game loved by retards. DE is in a category of its own, and it's unfair to compare any game to it, because I don't think anything else is anywhere near as disgusting.

Well alright, here's the video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uH3UbgEWBxg
It'll explain it better than I can since I'm just going off of what I remember him talking about, but I'm pretty sure that was like... the defining feature of the game. Which makes sense, when I think of that era of the internet I think of forums and Flash animations/games, and Flash is definitely the more exciting bit. So once you get rid of your Flash pastiche, what's left?

Obviously flash is important for that era, and obviously you need features like when you right click and play or pause flash videos and discover weird secrets or glitches, but the ability to make your own flashes seems silly. What were they gonna do? Have a Newgrounds style network? Steam workshop with psuedo flash files? Just don't do the flash player. There's still a lot of interesting stuff from that era

There was also the rise of corporate websites having a ton of cash infusion to try to get you to go to their websites and weird social """games""" like Habbo Hotel or Coke Music.

Fuck this is the first I'm hearing about it.
I loved Hypnospace and I was especially looking forward to dreamsettler since I'm much more nostalgic for that era of internet. This is very sad.
