Yes. The real question is, was Star Allies a good game

Putting aside the fact that it shipped unfinished, it's easily the worst Kumazaki game. But Kirby is a franchise that generally thrives on being comfortably mediocre, so it fits right in by that standard.

I did not expect that, that's to be sure. Actually, it's fitting that a character that got isekai'd returned the favor with the classic weapon of the genre.

I like the part where Claworine shoves Kirby up her ass.

Not him, but Star Allies has some of the best examples of what Kirby typically shines at. Forgotten Land is a completely different game universe with the most marketable Kirby elements haphazardly slapped onto it.

not when it first released, it's still fun cause kirby's general gameplay is inherently fun but its hyperfocus on needing four players at every time made a series that's already known for being simple almost braindead outside of arena runs.
it really started shining once all the DLC came out though, all the dream friends are fun to play as and heroes in another dimension/soul melter EX were a great relief after the nearly braindead simple main game, and even that gets a bit more fun now that you can have the older characters be your helpers.

i agree with the other anon, forgotten land is a great game but despite being the point, i feel it being so distinctively NOT kirby hurt it a bit, though that might in part be due to my dislike of post apocalyptic settings even if this time it's more that the people abandoned it after getting some cool space alien powers instead of getting wiped out.

It was just alright, not gonna sugar coat it, I had more fun playing robobot and triple deluxe.

But for a first attempt at 3D it was completely serviceable.

No but people will tell you that it's totally seriously a really good game after all the DLC came out even though it's not true

Yes, it's the first time Kirby hasn't felt stale in over a decade since they tried something new. Robobot was good but I don't really count it since that's because mecha can carry anything if it's done well, it wasn't good because they changed anything Kirby specific.

Very good. I would have liked more open levels, underwater sections, abilities with bigger movesets, and better co-op (with Gooey as the partner) but for Hal's first crack at a mainline 3D Kirby, it was pretty good.

On a related note, Drill is easily the worst Copy Power in Forgotten Land.

>But Kirby is a franchise that generally thrives on being comfortably mediocre
I haven't played a Kirby game since the DS but I felt like at the time they were all mediocre I mean none of them were difficult at all. Are there actually any good Kirby games that aren't cakewalks?

Seriously TerminalMontage is basically the only thing holding my interest in Kirby and I don't even get most of the jokes because I haven't played the games. Just the idea that Kirby eats a car and instead of driving somersaults everywhere is more endearing than whatever Kirby actually is. Like Kirby is just pure aesthetics there's really nothing going on beyond that.

Dream Land 2, Dream Land 3, Kirby 64. Easy but they require some effort, especially in the later halves.

I used to dislike the limited abilities, but after playing the game enough, i learned to appreicate them since they embraced giving most abilities some special interaction over just having the standard dashiframe/grab move/spam move/air attack move set. Like how Spike and Tornado are all about using debris as ammunition or fire and ice are about stacking debuffs

The main platforming Kirby games since the DS have all been directed by the same person, and they are all very similar in style.
None of them are difficult at all, except for the boss rush mode unlocked at the end of each. Those provide a moderate challenge, especially if done without the strongest abilities or with Normal Kirby.
And you are correct that there is very little in substantial gameplay, besides some extremely simple puzzles. Modern Kirby games are the platforming equivalent of the walking simulator.

Yes.
It was really fun to play through and I'll do it again when the Switch 2 version is out.
