>>715501627 (OP)diablo 2's monster design is god tier.
each monster has its own unique behavior and patterns that you have to learn and adapt to differently based on different builds.
for example the early game, the fallen keep getting up after falling unless you take care of their shamans who hide in the back and run away.
the hedgehogs? run away when you get near and if you give up and change directions, they will throw spikes at you to damage you again.
the rogues are fast and will run after you across the map.
and thats just the first map.
it had actual level and monster design and needed you to think.
every game that came after it was just number increasing and nothing else. every enemy was the same just different "elements" so you needed to raise different numbers.
diablo 1 also had this problem but diablo 1 was a proof of concept. imagine being as impressive as the tech demo that started the genre.
as for why 3 isnt hated as much as 4 is, 3 is casual and comfy. you got infinite respec and other things to make it a comfortable play without too much investment. 4 added complexity for complexity's sake to not appear casual and lost the only crowd that liked 3.
