I mean, it's not like Origins was very plot heavy, but there was at least a single thread of a narrative.

Legends, in exchange for looking sharper and more detailed, just feels like a big level pack DLC made full game. Things just happen, and you just go from level to level. There's even less characters as well. If the gameplay isn't gripping you, there's not a whole lot left beyond some okay music.

Other than that, it's just not all that special.

It's basically just an Origins expansion because there's really no sense of progression to it at all. You're just going through the motions. It's not unfun, don't get me wrong. Objectively speaking, it's a great 2D platformer, and the music levels were a fun idea. Also objectively speaking, it just feels like something is missing the whole time you're playing. Of course, if you've never played Origins, and especially played it before Legends, it's hard to aptly describe why Legends feels worse in general as an experience.

I never played origins and I feel the same exact way about it, its an incoherent slapped together level pack. It feels like an extras mode to a different game instead of a complete game itself.
I only ever play it co-op and even then the lack of progression makes its aimless to the point I often forget its a pretty good co-op game because it feels like hopping in and out of a non themed playlist on shuffle.

Honestly that's a great analogy. I feel like maybe some more effort could have been put towards at least having themed levels within a themed world or something. Even fuckass New Super Mario Bros games tend to manage this baseline level of coherence.

It's on PC and Xbox Series and looks and plays absolutely brilliant. It doesn't have the Ubishit launcher or any of that garbage either.

That really would've went a long way to making it feel like you're progressing towards something and the level menu itself makes it that much worse with how unorganized and chaotic it is. Shame because its not a bad game in its own right but not having any semblance of structure really drags the whole package down.
I had long assumed origins was identical to this, I got legends for free a while back, never played a rayman game before that despite being aware of it. Definitely gonna try that game at some point knowing this now.

The graphics are worse, and you progress through a disgusting hub of Mario 64 paintings instead of a cool world map, which ruins the feeling of exploring a world.
Appart from that both are just as good really. Origin has the mosquito levels and chest chases, Legends has the famous music levels, both are fun af.

Also for some reason Legends has like half the Origins levels included for you to unlock, but they're not fun without the world map and feeling of progression.

I enjoyed doing the daily runs as such, but it was definitely part of why I prefer Origins. Legends felt like corporate saw the success of the predecessor, gave the team a bigger budget and told them to double the profit. More money in = more money out, after all

Origin levels and music are also incredibly more fun. The fucking kitchen with peppers and forks while mexican music plays, or the ice level with frozen fruits, bouncy watermelons and swimming in cocktail juice with luau music is just so unique. Legends has noting but castle stone walls and epic music. Also it doesn't have bosses.

It's not that it's bad, Legends is fantastic, it's just not quite as good as Origins.

How so? You have endless lives and plenty of checkpoints, and even finding all the lums doesn't take much more than paying attention. I did fail some of the time attacks and chest chases a few times, and some of the bosses were tricky, and of course Land of the Livid Dead kicked my ass repeatedly, but it's still way easier than precision platformers like Celest which somehow gets more praise despite being overall worse

I played it on the steam deck. shits unweildy for using face buttons and dpad for long times. I had no problem for games like cyberpunk or elden ring, its very comfy for them but its clearly not designed for fast paced 2d platformers.

This is how I felt playing it. I loved Legends but compared to Origins, it just didn't hit as hard. Also I much prefer Origins art style to Legends, as beautiful as that game is. Also I miss the nymphs.

It is practically Origins 2.0. It's the only Rayman game in the main lineup that doesn't really have its unique take and feel so to me it never stood out as much either. Though it is of course a very good platformer.

Legends is better idk anon is yapping. But in my opinion all of them are downgrade from 3D games

Visuals are on point but everything else is worse than the 3D games.Anyway, the best 2d games are the GB/GBA ports which fix a lot of the problems of the original 2D game. But the series only works in 3D

Of course the 2D games are more streamlined, even though I wouldn't say no to a full-on Rayman metroidvania - it would work perfect with the way he's granted powers.
