Dude every big minecraft mod is about engineering autism. I just want to adventure with good combat. I would rather have Dark Messiah gameplay than 10,000 news types of spacetech blocks to make.

Every little advancement matters in Vintage Story, and that's what I love about it. In Minecraft there's nothing really stopping you from obtaining end-level gear within the first 30 minutes if you know what you're doing, Getting your first bar of iron is the culmination of, for an experienced player at least 8 hours of grinding and building infrastructure to support it, while in Minecraft you can just spawn in, walk into a cave, and you're already there. The dopamine hits different when you're expected to work for your advancments

Cube world tried to be that and Hytale would've been that. Minecraft has no substantial dungeons or bosses and the fact that there's no sophisticated mod that just focuses on that is unfathomable

Minecraft doesn't have and never had any progression whatsoever. Players just projected it on it because of mods and expectations of other games. There shouldn't be any goal other than the ones you set for yourself.

>Minecraft doesn't have and never had any progression whatsoever.
That's false. Fists -> wood -> stone -> diamond
Was the progression. You couldn't skip ahead and mine diamonds with wooden or stone tools.
Aside from the water/lava bucket obsidian casting you also needed a diamong pickaxe to enter the nether. And then you find stuff to make eyes of ender in the nether to reach the End dimension and beat the game.
That is progression in video game terms; You progress through gear upgrades and one tier is locked behind the one before it.
That stuff has been in minecraft since forever and is the intended way of progressing through the game.

Anon, I'd be inclined to understand and agree if it wasn't for the fact that this progression served purely to collect items faster, not to beat the game. If you found diamonds, great, now you can collect blocks faster to build more things. The End dimension and beating the game had no purpose, whatsoever, so you didn't progress to any defined goal other than the quality of life you get from your own goals.

There's no engineering autism, the progression currently cuts off at late medieval era with steel production (allegedly there are plans for some early steam era tech) but for now it's a heavy focus on early man's autism

>The End dimension and beating the game had no purpose, whatsoever, so you didn't progress to any defined goal
Huh?
You beat the game, anon. Credits roll and you get that weird end dialouge.
How is locking the end of a game behind several gear tiers you have to progress through in a linear fashion NOT progression in the classic sense?

I'm not convinced that
>Minecraft doesn't have and never had any progression whatsoever.
As per >>715521073
Personally I'd just walk back on that statement since it doesn't hold up.

There is no way they can honor this promise since steam can just go "nuh-uh" when they ask for more free keys.

You seem too smart about game design to not grasp what I'm saying, anon. Minecraft was intended to be unending, there was no progression to an end goal. Players weren't supposed to beat the game at all.

But now you're saying
>Minecraft should not have progression
which is very different from
>Minecraft never have and never had progression
even in an open ended game, you still progress through several gear tiers and unlock more crafting recipes with access to more resources.

Progression implies you are progressing towards a certain goal. Of course if you're being pedantic the very fact that gameplay varies and that you can set your own goals gives Minecraft progression. Yes, Minecraft has progression, but what I intended to say in the first place was that it's nowhere close to the RPG progression players and Mojang project onto it today. Your progression through resources was entirely in service of your own desires. Now, everyone is looking at Minecraft with the new structures, mobs, and biomes in mind, asking and demanding to expand and enrich all these functionalities to exaggerate progression into the game where it never really was.

>Yes, Minecraft has progression, but what I intended to say in the first place was that it's nowhere close to the RPG progression players and Mojang project onto it today.
That's something I can work with.
But I don't think expecting progression is the issue, is that Mojang set those expectations and never followed through with it.
We have so many half assed mechanics and concepts in Minecraft.
Combat against mobs is extremely basic.
You can gain experience points but not level anything up, instead you gacha gamble for enchantments on weapons that will break after use unless you get that one enchantment that everyone uses (or you abuse the villager trading system)
Minecarts are useless, most food items are useless compared to a select few.
There's an entire potion brewing system where many potion effects are extremely tedious to come by but they're hardly worth the effort.
I also think that legendary, max enchanted netherite weapons/armor go well with the durability system. If it wasn't for mending, people would be way too afraid to lose these things because of the effort required to make them. But then people slap mending on it and they become essentially unbreakable, only that you have to tediously farm XP from mob farms or mining quartz in the nether.
The whole cookie cutter resource farm thing is another can of worms I don't wanna open here.

It's like all the foundations for an RPG type progression are actually there but nothing ever came of them and that's the bigger issue imo.

how fucking deep do you have to go before you find iron? I've played the game for 300 hours and I haven't found a single vein of iron (I play with 10k block random spawn radius so fuck dying)

also I hope they add more automation to the game, one of the most enjoyable projects for me was building a windmill tower extension on top of my house

If I remember right iron won't spawn within 25k blocks of your spawn zone and it only appears in specific rocks that are nightmare drifter spawn layer or lower. I'm still on bronze and doing fine.

Autistic NEETs have fun with it. Streamers with no real job have fun with it for a couple days before the metrics ADHD kicks in and they jump to something that gets them more views and donations. Humans don't want to spend three hours manually chiseling out minute details so they can have a starter hammer.

Steam EULA forbid making the game more expensive on steam than any other platform so i doubt that.
