>>715523770>Yes, Minecraft has progression, but what I intended to say in the first place was that it's nowhere close to the RPG progression players and Mojang project onto it today. That's something I can work with.
But I don't think expecting progression is the issue, is that Mojang set those expectations and never followed through with it.
We have so many half assed mechanics and concepts in Minecraft.
Combat against mobs is extremely basic.
You can gain experience points but not level anything up, instead you gacha gamble for enchantments on weapons that will break after use unless you get that one enchantment that everyone uses (or you abuse the villager trading system)
Minecarts are useless, most food items are useless compared to a select few.
There's an entire potion brewing system where many potion effects are extremely tedious to come by but they're hardly worth the effort.
I also think that legendary, max enchanted netherite weapons/armor go well with the durability system. If it wasn't for mending, people would be way too afraid to lose these things because of the effort required to make them. But then people slap mending on it and they become essentially unbreakable, only that you have to tediously farm XP from mob farms or mining quartz in the nether.
The whole cookie cutter resource farm thing is another can of worms I don't wanna open here.
It's like all the foundations for an RPG type progression are actually there but nothing ever came of them and that's the bigger issue imo.
