Hello, first I'd like to start off by saying that I have some information about a game that is not too far out. I was debating on even posting this to begin with. I have some information that I had gotten from a friend that would like to remain nameless.

For those of you that know Naughty Dogs is working on a major game that has already been announced and rumored to be working on a second game. I am gonna come out and confirm that is true. The game they are currently working on is a remake of Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy. The game has been in active development since 2020 and is a complete from the ground up remake that expands on the first games plot/lore with all new areas and characters in hopes of kicking off a new franchise.

I don't have all the details I'd like I just know that the game is being built on Unreal and that Jak will intact have a voice this time around. The game is set to reveal at a Playstation State Of Play in the next coming weeks with a trailer already complete. From my understanding the trailer starts on a rainy forest location as the camera heads down a beaten trail as the voice of an old man can be heard explaining the history of echo and how it was created doing a fly by of several game locations including a beach, volcano, snow location before stopping at Misty Island to reveal Jak and Daxter with the title of the game and a 2026 release window for the franchises 25th anniversary.

I will be back with more information but this is something I wanted to share.

Naughty Dog doesn't use Unreal
Iirc they use a proprietary engine, which features a main language (I forget which one, but let's assume C++) and for gameplay scripting - a custom Racket DSL directly based upon their previous Lisp implementations GOOL & GOAL
For this to be true, Naughty Dog would need to be PUBLISHING the game, not DEVELOPING it, with development outsourced to some generic contractor
But it doesn't make sense - it would surely be vastly simpler to port Jak to their modern engine, since Jak was written (almost?) entirely in GOAL, which they still derive from.
I just don't buy it
By the way, Jak and Jak II have been ported to native x84-64 via the OpenGOAL project, which replicated the GOAL language, and is an astonishing achievement. Frankly I'm surprised that ND haven't C&D'd it already, and ESPECIALLY if they're bringing their own port to market
