It's the same issue with Crysis, single core performance has lagged behind in modern CPUs, so top of the line today can actually perform worse in certain games/tasks.

Reminds me of when they re-did the audio for homeworld 1 and 2. Yeah the original audio had recording issues due to compression.
But it had a charm to it, like the hiigarans made the tech just functional enough to work and focused on other things to get working.
The new crisp deliveries took a lot of the punch out of certain scenes.
