I'm playing this for the first time on gamepass and is it me or is it actually hard as fuck?
I'm playing on Hardcore difficulty and it's the hardest TPS i've played hands down. I expected some piss easy popamole combat considering how popular it is but I got the opposite.
Enemies are absolute bullet sponges, you die in seconds and they constantly charge you, flank you, throw grenades and the claustrophobic environments don't help. Some can even just one shot you and the checkpoints are put in annoying places so you're forced to do a 30 second scripted cutscene everytime you die which just adds to my frustration.

you'll need to use the active reload, shotgun, or use the chainsaw if youre playing hardcore. it was popular because of the co-op mode. pvp multiplayer is basically a shotgunfest.

Wait till those bat swarms are introduced, they will shred you the instant they touch you. I only beat the final boss because of a stroke of luck that made the boss pathing retarded.

yeah I don't enjoy it on higher difficulties because it becomes more of a peekaboo shooter so you have to play super cautiously

yeah, i got the active reload figured out, but I just use the chainsaw rifle and the burst smg, shotgun has been garbage in my experience (too inaccurate, low fire rate, doesn't one shot) and the single shot sniper too situational since a lot of combat is in close range

i finished act 3 just now, but yeah, act 2 was pure pain, mostly because the lightning was kinda fucked and I couldn't really figure it out if the way i'm going is safe unless I trial and error'd

the game is clearly balanced for co-op so a fucker saying BOOM and one-shotting you isnt a problem when your friend can just come over and revive you, it IS a problem when you are playing single player and the game is over the moment you are dead though
or atleast thats my cope for dropping the game to casual

Beating it solo on insane was a rite of passage back in the day. Hard-core is for babies, I don't know what's giving you so much trouble.

>>715527358
Do not use the hammer burst. Your second weapon should be either the longshot or the boomshot.

I will get this game on Steam.
Can someone who has played the beta tell me if there is mouse acceleration, or some other kind of bad mouse input?

The game still does has some effort into making the solo experience tolerable with the Boom audio cue, and the torque bow visual and audio cues aswell. But yes, it's a massive game changer to play in coop, for the revival and the flanking options in a game about flanking (something many cover shooters did not understand).
Gears should have always had the possibility for AI to revive at least 1 time per combat (I think later games added this) and AI commands (something like Brothers in Arms), I'd go as far as say that AI commands could be a toggle, like a mutator for the campaign depending on the type of action the player wanted from the game.
Although I wish a spinoff could play around the idea of character swapping any time like in Battlefield Modern Combat, could be interesting with a bit more open areas, still 4 characters max

It always pissed me off that Gears of War inspired a ton of clones, most of which got it wrong and actually did play as games where sit in the same piece of cover most of the time, and then that led to people assuming Gears of War itself was the same. Like how people call Mass Effect GOW in space, but nobody points out that Mass Effect doesn't come close to doing GOW justice for all the shit it borrowed from it.

The series (both single-player and to some extent multiplayer depending on the player type) does revolve mostly around flanking. Bulletsponge enemies avoid just tanking the damage, you have to pin them down into a position where they can't escape the damage, that is how the series makes it work at the most basic level. The trilogy is really well designed
