Holdfast nations at war. Most of the game is about bayonet duels. But be warned, the game is for ultra autists and you will die a lot, I'm talking 50 or even 100 deaths to kills ratio against certain individuals with thousands hours. So for most of the game you will be stabbed rather than stabbing.

Most rifles in Helldivers 1 had a bayonet attachment. The devs for HD2 are incompetent so they kept melee attacks in HD2 but only one meme rifle has a bayonet even though they added an entire weapon customization system with attachments.

In WW1 trench warfare there was lots of melee combat involved, it wasn't uncommon for people to wear pieces of chainmail or armor plates under their jackets. Short swords, axes or even maces were used in trench melee
