Emulation Thread
ITT talk about the old shit you're trying to emulate, or the recomps of old shit you're trying to play.
Nostalgiafaggots and thirdworlders are welcome.
has anyone figured out how to backport the Switch 2 zelda upgrades to switch emulators or do you just bruteforce resolution and FPS?
>recomps
Is ship of harkinian still the best zelda recomp? What other recomps are there? Last i heard we got starfox 64 recomp
>>715566932wait for oot decomp
mm decomp > recomp
>>715567242whatโs the differance? just who made it?
>>715566932There's the OoT recomp by the guys who did Majora's mask. Both OoT and MM have recomps from both those dudes and Ship.
Ship to my knowledge is the easiest to mod.
>>715567519>just trust me broexplain why. soh can't be that bad
>>715566586 (OP)I really hope the decomp scene gets to Vita someday because Vita emulation sucks ass
>>715567561it's not bad but decomp is better
What I'd LIKE to emulate is
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uke_69ARpFY
but unfortunately it works absolutely perfectly on Xenia up until you get into the first battle, then the enemies/player never appears and things basically crash/you cant continue. We'll never get a fucking fan translation until this one gets fixed and fully playable emulated.
>>715567630I agree but at least I can play the Muramasa DLC. My vita died not very long ago and I lost my P4G save data and my abillity to play Muramasa.
>>715567703I agree on the health bar it looks awful, but the red of the icons for items and weapons actually came from the HD item scans we got from the Zelda leak several years back so I think those are fine.
>>715567630how would you even properly play games like tearaway without a vita?
>>715567817Is Xenia still the worst fucking thing ever? I want to play Gears of War 2 so bad, but I don't wanna tweak shit on Xenia. It's so ass.
I bought a Trimui Smart Pro a while ago for emulating stuff and it's been great. Runs PS1 stuff nearly flawlessly, unfortunately not so much dreamcast which is what I was really hoping for. I can't remember which one it was but I tried one of the 2D Sega consoles as well and it didn't run that great either.
Worth the money I'd say

>>715567843>P4G Well, at least this one is native on PC now
>Muramasa RebirthI thought its emulated on Vita3K really well these days?
>>715567902I..dont know. Awhile ago I played Lost Odyssey that way (and even did a bit of The last Remnant because some faggotron thought I was faking the fact I have it on Steam. No, it WAS available on Steam and those who bought it can still download and play - you just can't buy new because SE decided to be a major fag about the remastered version and decided to cut out Steam/PC because it had all the upgrades that Remastered did, and cheaper/came before). and it was pretty smooth without issue? I hear that it takes a long time to be updated though.
>>715568065>Awakening modI have a soft autism spot for Awakening. What the fuck is this?
I played Last of Us today. The intro was so fucking boring that I'm not going to give the game a chance.
>>715568075it does get warm when emulating dreamcast and some more intensive PS1 games I've found, but not uncomfortably so. it feels like a sturdy enough product.

idk what they go for now but I only paid like $50 for it

>>715568156Here's one of the few videos from a couple years back that shows it play perfect until the crash.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qWFhhK71uC8
As far as I know nobody emulated gets farther than this.
>>715568274Hope you enjoy it! Its only in JP - it apparently came within a hair's breath of coming to the US but was dropped. Its a remake of the original PC Engine SuperCD game; the first JRPG on CD media as i recall and it blew minds in the late 80s with voice clips and everything . There's now a fan translation of https://stargood.org/trans/tenma.php - the original NEC PC EngineCD version after years.
The Xbox360 version is basically the version the original devs wanted to make way back when but the hardware wouldn't let them realize it fully. It also uses some of the video from the anime series that was made before the game where the devs wanted to go back to and expand their PCEngine game. Seems really an interesting part of JRPG history and this is the "definitive" version, but it sucks there isn't an emulate capable version nor a fan translation (or an official non shitty one). The concept is pretty cool though. The subtitle is
>Tales from Distant Jipangu , Far East of Edenand the entire concept is basically
>What if we wrote a JRPG that's set in the quasi-mystical era of what early Europeans THOUGHT happened in JapanSo its all mythological shit and stereotypes galore. They even made up it all comes from a book written by someone who saw the place etc. I think the guy who falls off the ship (wearing Western clothing) in the animated opening to the X360 version is supposed to be that guy.
>>715568395Thanks, I'll have to give it a shot. I've always wanted to play the Muramasa Rebirth version since enjoying the original on Wii way back when
>>715570080 based full-chop master sword appreciator. I donโt know why they keep shrinking shit in UI redesigns, the old one had presence. Now it looks like Linkโs wielding a damn toy sword from Korok-Mart. Every update just sandblasts another layer of soul off these games.
>>715568561Is this something worth a first playthrough of Awakening? Same basic story but expanded?
>>715568591 Hard agree, anon. TLoU was the blueprint for every slow-walking, melodramatic, daddy-daughter misery sim that completely overtook western devs' brains. Every time I see a $400 million โgrittyโ prestige game with a soft guitar soundtrack and waist-high cover shooting, I know weโre still suffering the ripple effect. What ever happened to stylized fun or gameplay being king? Fuckman really changed the trajectory of gaming-and not for the better.
>>715570080I didn't quite have control over what the texture back actually did but I'm fine with what it is. i do see your point on that one in particular though.
>>715569656You didn't answer my question on the new support writing. Is it at least inoffensive?
>>715569206>>715569086Depends on what platform really; most older ones are easy. I would really like to see if that PS4 emu that basically does Bloodborne can do Dragon's Crown Pro , but I guess you can fall back to RPCS3 and just modd it; I don't know if Pro has anything except the graphical enhancement? Any new content?
For the Switch games you need to have a reasonably but not incredibly powerful PC especially these days. As far as forks I THINK the common ones still updated are
>Ryujinx forks = Ryujinx by GreemDev/Ryubing, and Kenji-NXI THINK Ryubing/GreemDev's branch has the most progression - it even has dual joycon support which original Ryu never did, - but it still lacks GPU decoding of ATSC or whatnot but that affects Bayonetta, Astral Chain, TOTC and others not sure about any vanillaware titles like Unicorn Overlord or 12 Sentinels Aegis Rim.
>Yuzu forks = Eden and Citron-emu dot org (the dot pro version is a fake) There seems to be some shitstorm in the forks now so not sure which is still most active but those seem to be those that made actual progress
>>715570342>4090 + 19 for 60FPS only grim.
>>715570905I think its locked to that to avoid the kind of fuckery that especially JP games of the time did with physics and other things set to FPS. Even games like Valkyria Chronicles start having you basically put the game into super hard mode if you have FPS over 60 / refresh rate etc..because it ties enemies shooting at you in response to the FPS/refresh rate.
>>715570835This wouldn't be a fucking problem is VanillaWare actually ported their shit to PC.
Unironically what is their problem? Atlus/Sega have even OFFERED to do it for them and they denied it.
>>715570440chrom/nowi was pretty cute and i haven't seen anything stupid so far, sully isn't proclaiming how she's so trans and powerful or anything.
>>715570440you could, i'm a believer of the virgin run always being vanilla though
What's the most recent Recomp/Decomp?
Is there anything for the Gamecube yet?
>>715571075This is a constant frustration of mine. Fucking constant. Sega, who now owns Atlus is THE reason that we got Persona 4 Golden, eventually Persona 5 Royal etc... because Sega had to kick Atlus in the goddamn head and drag them kicking and screaming into the modern era with PC support...only for them to wake up and exclaim just how great it is. To their credit another Sega studio, RGG, started porting to PC and now says that PC is their primary and most dependable platform.
I can't understand why Vanillaware won't. All I can think of is Kamitani is afraid of every outsoucing ANYTHING. When they did the DCPro , he didn';t just let some random Atlus people do it, Vanillaware did it themselves. I can appreciate that, but fuck they have a huge potential audience on PC. His one letter to Justin Schreier is still legendary. All he need to do is port a handful of games to PC and release future ones on Steam at parity and he'd never have to worry about money again
>>715571432Dragons Crown PC would be great and it would get eyes and hands on it. I don't get why not. Unicorn Lord is really fucking good, too and it's stuck on switch.
>>715571432Japanese companies are generally just allergic to the PC market. Sega pushing PC ports so hard in recent years is something pretty unique.

>>715572459It's not too bad when playing but I know what you mean.
>>715566852Other than the app stuff which is cool on a tablet beside you (real time map, automatically switches air land and depths) pretty sure emulation has at least met graphically what the Switch 2 is outputting.
>>715567451Have some deceny
>>715571536It would. Even better if they have any new content/expansions for it. All of Vanillaware's titles will do well but especially I think
>Dragon's Crown Pro>Muramasa Rebirth>Unicorn Overlord >OdinSphere Leifthrasir>13 Sentinels Aegis Rimwould be a good start.
>>715571653maybe in the late 2000s or early 2010s that was the case, but Capcom was onboard early, along with Sega but even Bandai Namco, Square Enix (for th emost part, they're by far the most uneven major JP publisher doing something sane for one game and completely insane for another), Tecmo Koei, to say nothing for smaller ones like Falcom and the like are all treating PC as a worthwhile platform for the most part. Even fucking Sony knows PC is the best platform but hobbles it because of their studios shitting stuff out on PS5 earliest.
Vanillaware is an aberration at this point, especially when their publisher and that publisher's owner Sega have MAJOR successes and are willing to port stuff to PC. Vanillaware I hear is treated as a tiny studio that can only do one thing at a time and..okay I guess... but I can't see why they can't make a
>Okay George you get the final review to make sure it was ported properly at your quality level deal with Kamitani and let Sega/Atlus handle the rest and him okay it and/or create new content for it.

>>715573602pretty certain there's already a mod that adds models and animations from 3Ds version to PC.
>>715573204A lot of that has to do with Yuzu's excellent work. TOTK uses the ASTC (I get the acronym wrong sometimes but its a file format that only a handful of ancient as fuck GPUs have support for, aside from those like mobile Tegras that have a hard codec for it included) format. It also then needs to be recompressed to a lossless format that is equivalent. The reason that
>Bayonetta 3 (I don't think 2)>Astral Chain>TOTK (but not BOTW as I recall)and a few others known to be really demanding Switch games to emulate have stuttering, cinematics where voices desync from animation etc.. is because of this issue. All the Ryujinx based emus use a emulated CPU decoding option for this and even a pretty big dick CPU will still not do this well - MAYBE if you had a latest gen Ryzen 7000 or 9000 3D Cache model I hear can do it without stuttering but everything else is fucked. Yuzu on the other hand, coded in a Vulkan based GPU ASTC Recompression (even the potential for asymmetric decode - at the cost of pop in but either setting works fine) that means you can use your GPU to decode this shit a lot faster in real time of this specific format. Eden and others of Yuzu's legacy already have this feature and its a reason why you can get upscaling and higher frame rates without shit going south in play or cinematics here.

>>715573539I know, I do too. Some of it is fear of Nintendo bullshit but other parts is discord drama. For instance, all of them pretty much refuse to help people who have issues playing pirated games and for good reason - puts the crosshairs on their back. However Citron forinstance started a https://github.com/LotP1/SwitchVerifier/
>Run this program on your modded switch and spits out a value of your secret key- until it was updated itwas your WHOLE FUCKING SECRET KEY - to prove to us you have a modded switch and are not a dirty pirate and people rebuked the dev, Zep with somewhat good reason. Thats one reason for the Eden fork as I recall. Not sure what drama happened there recently or if any did.
The verifier thing before was only used by Ryubing if you managed to get slapped with the
>Pirate, no help label because you came in with
>HELP WHERE I GET GAME >TOTK DOT PIRATE_RELEASE_GROUP DOT SHITENDO ISNT WORKING HALP and other shit, but if you didn't act like an ass you didn't need verify just to ask a question in the discord server etc. So yeah, a lot of it is drama - I think
>Suyu poked the bear, came out of it with their own hosting but didn't really have ther skills for major development>Sudachi is primarily fixated on Macfaggotry and mobile but has contributed >Torzu is pretty based but is only on Tor for the mainline and doesn't compile every release>Citron has the faggotry of the verifier thing but made some real progress >Eden basically was the breakaway from Citron because of the verifier faggotry but not sure if it has updated since. >>715578659who is that girl
I've been playing shit on my RG Slide. Beat Super Double Dragon the other day, played some TMNT Arcade. Currently playing Shredder's Revenge (the actual Android port in this case). Also replaying FF7. Haven't tried anything more demanding that PS1, might throw some Dreamcast and PS2 games on there sometime.
I tried emulating Ace Combat 04, 5 and Zero on my phone (Xiaomi Poco F6) and they have a shitton of slowdowns, while on my old 2500k rig they used to run at constant 60fps even with 4x internal resolution

>>715566586 (OP)I am emulating Zelda 1.
I did finish it about 20 years ago using Nesticle but i abused the hell out of save states. So i'm playing it properly this time.
One thing i'll say - i don't know why Castlevania 2 gets so much shit for being cryptic and obtuse when zelda 1 is just as bad:
-there are multiple areas on the map where if you enter them without a guide you will get stuck in an infinitely repeating loop.
-there's a dungeon and several important items hidden in caves underneath bushes/statues you have to randomly burn down/bump into.
-the dungeons are filled with sections where you have to bomb walls, and there's no tell or audio/visual cues like in link to the past, and your bombs are extremely limited because they are the only way you can kill the dinosaur monsters in the dungeons.
Also I literally got stuck in a room in level 5 because the door closes behind you and you have to bomb your way out the side through a secret door, but i had no bombs because i used them all killing the stupid dinosaurs in the previous room.
I had to google it, turns out it's a common point where people get stuck. You have to plug in a second controller, set it up in retroarch, then save the game using the controller 2 trick and then reset and start all over again.
>>715574943Since we are on the topic, which emulator should I use for Dragon's Crown? Never really looked into emulation Playstation stuff outside of the PSP for MonHun.

>>715582775It's obvious that you need a Samsung Galaxy S25 because the Snapdragon 8 Elite is extremely fast!
>>715567902It's underdeveloped but if you get good settings for your game it works well. I played Armored Core V/VD and Ninja Gaiden 2 on it without much trouble and few crashes.
>>715566586 (OP)Awaiting Switch 2 hack so I can play Gamecube games on official hardware. Not dropping $200 on chinkshit and touch buttons on mobile is cancer. I'll only consider PC if the Dolphin devs find a way to get the NSO GC controller to work on it.
>>715574887Of the dozen yuzu forks since it got killed, there's been literally 0 progress made. Probably the same for ryujinx. Nintendo literally won the switch emu battle. Real experienced devs learned not to fuck with them and the only devs who picked up the pieces are all barely teenager literalwhos with not a fraction of the capability as their predecessors.
why is vanillaware so stupid and wont port their games on pc?
>>715577757Switch 2 can't be hacked. If it can't be hacked then it can't be emulated. It's over.

>>715568170>>715568707Imagine taking 12 years to wait to emulate cinematic slop TLOU when you've all the evidence of it being dreck for retards that don't actually like video games.
>>715588413It's so funny how literally every other Japanese company ported everything to PC except them, when back when this push started we only really wanted MGR, Valkyria Chronicles, and Vanillaware games lol.
I remember this clearly.
keep planning to replay Bloodborne on emulator at a proper framerate but it keeps falling to the wayside for other activities

>>715567986There's tons of good chinkshit. The one he's showing is a pretty cheap budget option that I would never buy, but there's tons of options with companies like Ayaneo even making expensive luxury-type devices that most people can't even afford, rather than your common budget chinkshit.
If you look into the in company's some are actually run by pretty hardcore gamers while others are obvious cash grabs.
>>715571653That's not even true anymore. It's actually more common to see console gamers begging for ports or Japanese games than PC gamers these days.
Vanillaware is not normal.
>*Spill gallons of blood*
EMULATION!
I don't care about all that ! I just need to finally find a way to emulate and UNCAP the fucking enemy-on-screen-limit for Hyrule Warriors on Switch (and Age of Calamity as Well)
I BEG my soul every day to see more than 30 Gorons on screen at any given time ! Capping the number of spawning enemies (or not giving an option to set it) in Musou games post 2020 is fucking CRIMINAL.
If anyone has any emulation tips for the switch that could uncap this, I would be very grateful.
>>715587926Is it better to use .iso files or the package ones? Been trying with an iso version but the damn thing just refuses to boot it.
Playing Minish Cap atm. I'm at the ice temple and I'm enjoying it a lot, not really sure why everyone here seems to hate it so much.
>>715588378This really isn't exactly true. Some of those I mentioned above have progressed both in compatibility and features. Granted the original team already did a ton of work and they were mature thankfully, but pretty much all of the forks have at least done some minor benefit with others having more significant ones. Torzu, Eden (Citron had some improvement too prior to the Eden split) compared to baseline Yuzu's last version are enhanced by comparisons. As far as Ryujinx, at least one of them (Ryubing/GreemDev's fork) has some significant contributions including the ability to load update/DLC without having to install them, so you can just plop them in the same directory you make for base games without needing to install them (I'd like to see Yuzu being able to dynamically load base XCI/NSP + Update NSP + DLC NSP without need to install. I should check to see if Torzu or Eden can do this or if they could) and has Dual Joycon w/ independent motion controls allowing you to play RingFit Adventure or any of the Fitness Boxing games for instance (something Yuzu had due to a custom SDL driver, but Ryujinx nor its previous forks never had). So progress is being made. I don't thinkthis is Nintendo's win so much, rather other issues with Discord faggotry and just needing to find people with specific skillsets. Yuzu and Ryujinx won in the end being open source and even before their closures were developed and even optimized so well the vast majority of games were playable at parity without issues. The one thing that we are missing however, was a proper Nintendo Switch Online virtual emulator for online play.
I'm sure a Switch 2 CFW and eventual emulator will be coming along. Frankly in the old days Nintendo's litigious bullshit nature by itself would have been enough to inspire lots of oldfag hackers with the skill to help build an emulator, CFW or whatever else.
>>715591867installing pkg files was easier iirc but they should both work
>>715590139I'd look for mods? That seems like something that could be modded in perhaps? It could be done purely with a graphics mod if it was an issue of there were only so many SHOWN on screen at a time or distance based, but it may take a more comprehensive mod to actually spawn more enemies than originally intended. Given the kinds of modsthat say... BOTW get with custom enemies or items both on Switch and even WiiU through Cemu first!
>>715566586 (OP)I emulated this game several months ago. Had a blast
>>715567242>>715567414What are you guys talking about? The OOT decomp SoH is ported from is 100% complete. SoH just wasn't done by peculiarly competent people. For example, there is no mouse look, and there are random frame drops that can only be semi-fixed by increasing the frame gen and using v-sync.
>>715588413See -
>>715572661 ; the only answer I've heard is that Kamitani is basically afraid their small studio can only handle one project at a time so porting means not developing something else. He's terrified of allowing any 3rd party to do the porting for them and wants to do it directly to have a certain level of quality; I can understand why he's seen shit ports in the past but still it seems like something that could be gotten around. This is especially true if he doesn't have any experience with porting to/development for PC, despite the fact that its functionally no more difficult and likely easier than many consoles especially these days.
Some anons and I were talking about sending POLITE messages to Sega/Atlus and Vanillaware directly requesting PC ports of Vanillaware games and to have Steam as a launch platform for new ones. I figure it cant' hurt if done right. If Kamitani can talk to Sega (who throttled Fatlus into finally bringing games to PC and now seem to find it very lucrative), Atlus themselves, and especially RGG Studio given Yakuza's success on PC of the "We make so much more money from PC over a longer time , even selling our games at $10 gives us a huge profit and new people keep buying and playing Yakuza 0" variety, maybe he could decide to give porting a try.

>>715566932SoH is not a recomp, it's a port of the decompilation. Recomps are ports done without a decompilation, just automatically and then MAYBE tweaked.

>>715596876Dosbox X is better. ECE or whatever community edition has no community support, ironically. X has a gui, the only other example of which is that ancient SVN Daum build. You can scale to whatever aspect you want and not have to use that odd forced 16:10 aspect the original forces on you, along with an easy XBRZ filter and better performance than whatever Dosbox-Pure has going on.
