Exponential functions are too bonkers for that. Imagine if your RPG was intened to be beaten with lv30 characters that start from lv1. Even if EXP to level up to 2 started with something as laughably small as 2, getting to 30 would require 536 million total.
Just make the scaling a third degree polynomial with a small third power coefficient that will start mattering once you're closer to your intended soft cap.

Recently while wandering the remains of the old web on wiby.me, I came across the website of the most famous mathematician in Japan.
Reading fragments of his website has induced more despair and realization that I am profoundly stupid and below any genuine academics in the world and that I will never amount to anything no matter what I do. I could devote the rest of my life to studying 1% of this man's work and not understand any of it. No "the universe is so vast" thing had ever made me truly feel the absolute impossibility of the world before I read some blurbs on this 56 year old asian man's homemade website that looks like it's from 1997.

I wish I were smart. But damn, it's like looking into a higher plane of existence. The contrast of the simple, sometimes awkwardly laid out website, the plain photos of an average looking Asian man, all about mathematics on such a high level that I doubt he could even teach me the foundations of it in a year's worth of classes. It's a different kind of despair than anything else. I don't hate this man, I think he's amazing. I don't think I did anything wrong, I'm just not smart. But the sheer difference in levels of intellect genuinely feels like I'm staring into an infinite, impenetrable void where people like this live. And I will never be even 1/10000th the person this person is, not in a "woe is me" kind of way, but rather in a "Damn, why do I exist?" way.

I think it's the same as languages, imagine your brain working differently just because your language structure isn't even the same.

base 10 is fine for simple math, but division is kinda garbage, logarithm and roots are nightmare to calculate manually. All fractions are basically a hassle. PI and the most useful constants are not that accessible either.

am I arrogant in thinking that you or I probably could? I mean, sure I'm ass at math and self-teaching analysis with Rudin and Zorich in my free time, but I think I could understand AT LEAST a couple of lines if I get to post-grad books after I'm done with these. It would take me several years, but I think I could understand an argument or two, in his lesser papers.

I struggled to pass Advanced Statistics 2 in uni with a B grade. Math and related subjects are not my strong suit and even when the instructor literally walks me through it I still struggle with grade 12 math.
