Anon, you don't need to finish Earthbound if you're not enjoying it. If you really want you could try Mother 3. The combat is more engaging and the story is more structured and coherent, you might prefer it. M3 stands on its own quite well even though some moments are enhanced if you've played Earthbound. Although, honestly, if you're not enjoying its humour and overall vibe, you probably won't enjoy Mother 3 either

it's stronger in some ways, weaker in others. I think earthbound's pacing is much better, it really gets right into the adventure so replaying it feels super brisk. Mother 3 has a LOT of intro to work through before you can really begin the main adventure of the game. But Mother 3 also has much better characterization of the principle cast because of that time spent, where the bulk of the cast in EB serve as one-off gags or as cardboard cutouts you lug around to do fights with. if only EB had DQ's party talk function

I did and guess what happened just now. Since i didn't properly walk through the desert the high way blockade never disappeared so when having to learn PSI Teleport i kept crashing into it and the game wouldn't let me progress, i had to manually walk through the desert all over for the cars to go away.

Walking thorugh walls bugs the shit out of the game and doesn't make it any faster. At least it was useful in the stupid mole cave to avoid all the random monsters and just run to each mole.

It's probably the most replayable in my opinion. I find it much less heavy on the dialogue and railroading than the others, particularly 3. I love all 3 but I really love 1's atmosphere, the music, the charming graphics, the mysterious open world, the wacky PSI and challenge of how enemies can really just tear into you.

I quite like CT's length, not every JRPG needs to be a massive nearly 100 hour venture, especially when the combat is admittedly not very complicated. it has a cool twist on ATB though, shame no other game ever really bothered to iterate on the idea until like, I am Setsuna, and that game is stinky. As for the world the game makes up for lack of quantity with some real good stuff, like the Robo Factory, Magus tower revisit, the Lucca flashback and reviving Crono to name a few standout bits.

I'm making my own earthbound inspired quirky rpg.
I'll have a demo early next year hopefully, I don't know if I should post it here though since the culture changed so much and most people now hate this shit. But a lot of anons loved that kind of stuff back in the day. Sigh...

It was shilled to get people to buy the game at extremely high markup from resellers. The only unique thing about the game is the "quirkiness". Other than that, everything else is standard JRPG fare. The game tries to be funny, but I don't find any of the forced humor funny at all.
