I genuinely hate how they gave him this "Chosen One" story in the newer entries

The best thing about him was he was always at the wrong place at the wrong time but that shit didn't matter to him

I agree. Despite its flaws Doom 3 captured the spirit of the original Doom better.

I can't imagine giving a single shit about Doom's story at all.

Another problem is how much story they gave him in Eternal and TDA
At least 2016 understood the appeal of >grab your weapon and go

in the original Doom he literally stomped every demon on Deimos + Phobos before venturing into Hell itself to wreck every demon there. by the time of Doom64 he's basically stuck in the eternal cycle of going back to Hell again and again to kick demonic ass. it's not quite the levels of bullshit of the NuDooms but i think it's a bit disingenuous to pretend Doomguy was some average joe in the originals, maybe he was only in E1M1

He literally was, just a guy with a shotgun and a lot of anger

Yet the new games will not shut the fuck up about it.

I played it and after reading a few things I learned that the game is deliberately cartoonish. It's He-Man with gore

I'm a contrarian who doesn't mind most of the nuDoom lore even when the game insists on it way too much. However I have to draw the line at Eternal's DLC, the writers just went full retard there.

the narrative intermisions between each chapter literally give you giant walls of text outlining doomguy's deeds. doomguy is canonically too tough for Hell itself to contain him. it's not just gameplay contrivance, the story acknowledges this too

The dev team of these new Dooms sounds like it's full of showbiz rejects who couldn't make it in the "real" entertainment industry and settled for gaming out of spite. Mick Gordon wanted to have Into Sandy's City in the credits of Eternal which would have been great but it was rejected because it was "too gamey".

Which I find retarded as shit considering they went and put a ripoff of the Avengers Endgame portal scene into one of the Eternal DLCs, like good job making quality original content there you dumb fucks.
