2 is better than 1, hardmode in particular. Think otherwise? You're wrong.

the entire point is that violence breeds more violence. what's more violent than just nuking everyone?

Yeah. Nobody figured it out. That's how it ends.
Well, one guy figured it out. But that's hardly enough to change course.

I think the dev didnt release any other game after 2. They probably made tons of money and went to retirement.

I always wondered why they were so keen on NOT making a hotline miami 3. Like, i can understand not wanting to make a sequel, but why engineer an ending specifically to prevent any setup for a sequel?(and fail, because there are a lot ways to move forward from the nuke lol)

Because they didn't want to make a trilogy, its that simple. They felt they did everything they could in Hotline 1 and 2 and didn't want to drag out the series when they feel it would've been boring. Plus they're swedes, a notoriously lazy people unlike the Finns

Yes, but they all died after having heard one of the best gaming soundtracks to come out of the 2010s.

it's better to stop early so your games are fondly remembered and not turned into a hollow caricature of it's former self and milked for eternity

The creators are retarded hipsters so they hated the game the moment it became popular. They're also not very good writers or coders so It's lucky enough that HM2 came out as good as it did after all.

The first game told the story they wanted to tell. It's a bit ambiguous, sure, but that was a huge part of the point and the appeal. It was pretty clear what was happening and what the motivations for the characters were.

The second game was a direct response to different fan responses of the first game.
>The movie director
The most meta. The player that sees the first game as something more than it really was and projects themselves onto it.
>The Fans
The people that listen to the soundtrack and imagine a music video in their head where they act out the first game.
>The Henchman
Who were the goons we were killing?
>Jake
What is the weird organization Jacket was fighting for? Why would he do what he did?
>Pardo
The image of fame from heinous crime. The need for attention that some criminals have that leads them to do awful things to earn themselves a wikipedia page.
>The Writer
Pretty simple. The people that want to understand. The Youtubers making theory videos. Obsession not for fame, but for understanding to the point of detriment.
>Beard
The backstory. What shaped Jacket?
>The Son
Who were these people fighting, anyway?

The second game just answers all the possible questions about the first game. There should not be a third game. They spoon fed us.

I think endings where everybody dies at the end and nothing is "resolved" is based

>Scene at the end of the first game where Jacket looks at a picture the audience can't see and then throws it away
>It's only revealed in 2 what that picture was
So why did they include that in 1? Did they have Jacket's backstory planned out? Did they throw it in just for theory fags?

HM2's story was boring. The way it was structured was a blatant Tarantino rip off. None of the characters were fleshed out or interesting. And the ending jumped the shark. So yeah, that's indeed it. I personally think that the plot behind the phone calls introduced in HM1 was unrealistic and stupid to the point of being immersion breaking. It worked much better without explanation, so that you could simply assume that your protagonist is some kind of schizo hearing voices on the phone that tell him to kill people. I'd cut the whole biker segment out.
