The only reason people like this game is because it is old and launched a successful franchise.
The actual game itself is really bad.

First and foremost, the dungeon design, which every Zeldafag always rant about when it comes to these games, is generic at best and completely broken at worst. Due to the fact that there are more locked doors than keys, you can get hard locked out of progression, just by playing the game and exploring the dungeons like normal.

Secondly, the exploration that everyone says they love, is trash. There is no rewards for exploring. You only come across dead ends, or endless rooms with mobs that don't give any kind of reward. Rupees don't really count, because there are no upgrades or items to spend them on.
Zelda II is funnily enough better in this regards, since the mobs will at least provide experience points, giving them a reason to exist.

Third, the worst one, is that the game is IMPOSSIBLE to beat without a guide. Yes, you heard that right. It is impossible and you did NOT beat it by yourself.
The entrance to the final dungeon is locked behind a random bombable wall, with zero indication or hint that you can bomb it. Every wall is like this and the only way to find hidden caves is to meticulously and tediously bomb every single wall on the game.

It's a shit game that people lie about liking.

the old zelda games were actual adventure games, as in the genre with necessary items and puzzles gating progression
There are no puzzles in the later games, everything is clearly conveyed to the player
I understand that you prefer the newer games but the adventure game style is in no way bad. Also you're just wrong on every count, there are secrets that aren't rupees and there are items you purchase with rupees

These are such blatant lies that I feel compelled to completely ignore everything else you posted.

I played this for the first time a couple years ago after playing most of the other Zelda games and the original is genuinely one of the best. I even did a deathless run without the save and quit trick in one sitting because I didn’t want it to end. The combat is some of the most satisfying in the entire series and nothing in the game requires a guide if you make use of the manual and tips/strategies map that comes with the game.

It's true. My best friend and I are playing through the entire series and I highly doubt that we would have found everything without a guide. The good news is that now that I do know where things are, I can probably play the game again alone and be okay.
Also FUCK WIZROBES.

I think the original LoZ and SMB were made with a completely different mindset that these would be community games that you'd share together.

The secrets in mario and the secrets in LoZ are at the core of the experience because these are games everyone is supposed to bond over and create memories with tthat outlast the games themselves.

These games were made to foster communities first and then be games second because they took that arcade mindset of being games you'd share and applied that to a home console.

Stumbling on things, finding out how to progress and sharing that was how these games were designed.
