WHY DID NONE OF YOU TELL ME THIS WAS ABSOLUTE CINEMA?

I am still in chapter 2, trying to rescue princess. But Jesus Christ, this is amazing. It is such a dark game.

>masterful use of tone, the game is dreadful in class warfare from beginning to end
>the entire downfall of Delita is a writing clinic, amazing what they managed to do with 2D characters
>game is hard as nuts, incredibly punishing but very rewarding
>you actually understand why Delita turns heel since you yourself lose all faith when they shoot his sister while he watches because a peasant's life has no value
>masterful tell and show
>no character instills more hatred in you than Argarth
>you are constantly getting betrayed, to the point you are so on edge that you just undress all the guest characters because you know they are gonna fuck around soon
>all battles feel like hopeless traps that you fall for
>you are constantly outskilled

It is 200% better than Game of Thrones. It actually feels human.

>far more dramatic
>actually explores the character of the peasants in these medieval fantasy world
>characters are not just a bunch of nihilistic psychopaths and narcissists and rapists, they are well-written nihilistic psychopaths and narcissists and rapists
>things actually happen, unlike Game of Thrones, that has one big event per book because the pace is so slow
>it actually has a theme, a moral and a message about the human condition and feels no need to self-sabotage into nihilism because of post-modern philosophy of the author that art should convey no positive message to the readers
>doesn't need a million actors and an immense budget, can tell a heart-wrenching story with only 2D sprites

Call me a newfag if you want, but I've been here since 2014. Whenever Final Fantasy is brought up, people just either shit on it, talk about the MMO or post porn. There is no inbetween, so I pretty much gave up trying to discuss Final Fantasy because people either love it, fap to it or hate it.

Then I am truly a newfag, because I don't remember any regular Final Fantasy Tactics thread, nor I remember a single Final Fantasy game getting actual praise here. Every praise seems to be either reserved to the niche who plays the MMO, or enthralled in a flame war between people who seem to hate on Final Fantasy with a boner.

because whiny gamers are manchildren who hate politics in their world building, they would rather listen to a fake ass version of pop science/history for world building so that they can sound smarter than everyone

politics automatically elevates a world to a 10/10 since it makes groups form logical decisions for their actions. Unfortunately gamers want trite dogshit about evil black monster races cursed by a macguffin, as opposed to believable evil leaders creating a false flag to seize territory and create jobs for a war effort that advances their impoverished nation

If the game is so easy for you guys, can you give me tips? I'm struggling a lot in that fight where Ramza gets split from the rest of the team, and he has to 1x1 fight the mercenary Dark Knight with the bullshit HP leech skill by himself while his team gets jumped by a whole army outside. I figured out that there is a way to open the gate and use it like a chokepoint, but I'm still getting my ass kicked.

I find the game too hard, I currently have 14+ hours on this save file but I'm stuck in this fight.

My team is a Knight (Ramza), another Knight, a Chemist, a Black Mage and a Monk. The subjob for all classes is Chemist (so I can use phoenix down and potions on all, and the subjob for the Chemist is Knight so she can have shields and armor. I keep a stock of 40+ phoenix down and 40+ hi-potions in all fights because otherwise I lose).

My tactics so far to win the game has been spamming Phoenix Down and potions.

I do not have a very high IQ, so please keep it simple. But I was smart enough to at least beat the Cognazzo fight in the DS FF4 remake and graduate in a STEM in college (without AI).

The politics is really good in this game. It sort of reminds me of the Three Kingdoms romance of sorts, mixed in with English history and some russian stories.

I personally found demons being in the background incentivizing the squabbling nobles to be quite the most realistic part of the world.

I am just amazed by the game. It is so simple, but it really shows how a well-written plot can make a difference.

Give Ramza classes with good speed, like monk, thief and later on ninja. This will help you later on with other maps with similar gimmicks.
Speaking of, try to keep two separate save files. Alternate them.
You can also keep Ramza as a squire. His squire class is actually unique to the generic one, and has some extra skills that are deceptively good. I don't recall if he has access to Yell at that point in the game, but if he does, you can spam it to raise your own speed and eventually get to a point where you get back to back turns in a row.
As you're going with chemist for everyone, try to save JP for auto potion. It's a very good passive. Some might even say it's broken as fuck. Just remember you'll use the lowest tier of potion in your inventory, so if you have no cheap shit potions...

That is cool. I thought Ramza's squire was just like everybody else's. I've been struggling a lot.

I use auto-potion on my Chemist only, then use her as a tank of sorts. I did not realize that she'd start auto-chugging higher tier potions if I ran out of basic potions, then kept buying the cheap potions.

I am not very smart, and sometimes this game doesn't front-end some information that is required for me to play optimally.

blade grasp is super cool, I gave that to my Ninja generic. doing a run of FFT PS1 right now, my squad is
>Ramza - Knight with his screams dual wielding Knight Swords
>Summoner/Black Mage - pretty generic magic nuke setup
>White Mage/Time Mage- teleport and a magic gun to blast shit when not casting heals/haste
>Ninja - super fast, loads of movement, blade grasp so you can only really hit her with magic
>Agrias
I benched the thunder god for this run because he's simply too good. Agrias is good enough of a holy knight without going into nutso insano territory

yeah the extra content is another factor to consider. if you're feeling cheeky, you could always use the "The Lion War" mod for the PSX version to get the original translation with all the WotL content, plus some extras like the multiplayer rendezvous.
as far as unmodded vanilla FFT goes, though, the dirty little secret is that the mobile version is the best way to play. The game does surprisingly well with touch controls.

The story involves to a large extent actual commoners. It makes no sense how half of them speak like they studied shakespeare all their life. The entire vibe of the story should not be "it's a shakespeare play" either because it explicitly focuses on real politics, so that angle doesn't work either.

nta but yeah, with enough Bravery you can almost guarantee an auto-potion proc as reaction ability's chance to go off is directly based on the Bravery Stat, which you can max cap at 97 IIRC. so a 97% chance to slam an x-potion that heals 150 on taking any hit. As long as you can survive a hit you have a very good chance to negate a big chunk of damage taken most of the time, if not every time.
