The Dark Aether split is understandably a pain in the ass but I still find the maps more enjoyable to play in than 1 or 3

It's only a pain because most of it is disconnected, and have to travel between the two to go anywhere in dark aether.

Even with the health constantly draining with the dark suit, it's so slow that it might as well not be there at all. To the point where the light suit is hardly an upgrade.

Hardly, Echoes is more like a valley with higher highs and lower lows. Spider Guardian is truly the great filter, but if you beat it then you already did better than the original MetroidDB webmaster.

If speaking from the trilogy exclusively, that title goes to Corruption and even then that's still a fine game in its own right. Hunters was ass outside of being portable Quake, and Federation Force is a good idea with bad execution.

It's pretty much the same as prime 3, which is to say worse than Prime 1

Spider Guardian is a Morph Ball miniboss. You must use Boost Ball and Bombs to stun the boss and trigger switches to detour the boss into damaging barriers. The final segment requires you to repeat this a few more times in the same section. It is perhaps the most-involved boss in this category.

It requires more patience on the GCN version, as the Wii re-release inherently has the Spring Ball ability when you have Bombs; it is much faster and responsive despite the waggle. The Wii version also nerfs Boost Guardian directly, and if Retro remasters Echoes, it will likely inherit these changes.

Yes but there is a lot of lame stuff. Progression is gated strictly by the narrative there are dumb pixel hunt portions sprinkled throughout, dodge trivialize basically all combat, it is a very linear game, the story is batshit throwaway. There's a good game hidden there but it's campy.

Prime was never good

I loved the dark world mechanic. It looked like a nightmare, everything from the air to the water was poisonous, the enemies were buffed to hell. There was dread when you stepped through the dark portal and relief if you survived to make it back to the real world. It perfectly captured the Metroid feeling of being in a hostile environment where everything is trying to kill you.
