Why are video game shoppes so weird?
>player goes there but to sell
>always selling at a discount
>the shop has to, by law, buy everything you're pawning, even if it's literal garbage or cursed items
>zero tax
>player never sees the other side of the counter unless stealing
>player never owns a shop nor sells to NPCs
It's like the experience was made by someone who's never sold anything in their life, only consumed.

Devs think it's not important
Market would take effort to implement
It would eat system resources from other things, considering how shitty consoles are
Would bloat save file possibly.

I mean at least in Skyrim you have to waste a level up perk slot on making every merchant buy anything. Otherwise they'll only buy the same type of item that they sell.

Supply and demand, and inflation system would be pretty neat for every game.
You couldn't mass harvest or produce a single item and then dump them to the vendor for huge profit as the value would go down more there are that item in the world.
Town would become rich if you spent lots of gold there and prices would go up. More beggars would appear on the streets, place could turn into a trading hub..
But you can't expect any of that from modern incompetent game devs.

I always thought it was a fun idea to actually make players think
>could this actually be worth something to anyone in the city?
when they dungeon crawl. I don't think it would even be very hard to implement. You don't need any complex economical simulations or anything, you just need to come up with some NPCs that will buy certain things for logical reasons. Everything beyond that is pure bonus, like you could make it so there's a high demand for meat and booze at inns right before a big festival.
