I miss Cringe-Sony.
At least that made the daring and entertaining to watch. Now we have Passive-Sony, who do nothing, make nothing and haver very literally made the "no games" meme real.

Are you guys sometimes nostalgic for better, yet still bad, times in video games simply becaise current times are worse?

I think so. It's in maintenance-mode and there's nothing new being added but I think the servers were still there.

At some point consoles lost their identity. They used to be pretty unique combinations of hardware, even exclusive hardware (see the PS3s processor and the Wii's controller), and integrated software solutions that were exclusively targeting games and the people who played them. Now most consoles are low-powered PCs with less functionality and more expensive multi-plat games that run badly and play worse.

That's not a winning formula.
Give it a few years and Playstation will be walking down the road Xbox has been going for a while now.
Nintendo will hang on for dear life, but only the absolute most deluded fanboy will tell you they can't see the signs of rot at Nintendo too.

is that what we call cancelling every game and killing off studios now?

I never understood the "acquisition" phase Sony anr Microsoft went through:
>buy stusio for hundreds of millions
>have no vision or interest in the company or their games
>do nothing to help them or motivate them
>their games come out as trash because their bosses don't care
>cancel the rest of their games
>fire all their do-nothing employees
>dismantle studio
What wad the point then?

I don't either understand how this was suppose to turn into profit.
Like is it just the IPs they want? Just another name to put in the vault they can drag out again in 20+ years for nostalgia?

That's the only strategy I can see, but even that falls apart the second you realize that game development is getting worse by the second and it doesn't matter how potential good the IPs you're sitting on if you can't use them to make good games.
Corporate mentality confuses the fuck out of me.
