Hey these "older" games are pretty fun,but was it just me or are the old final fantasy games on the easier side?

(Were you supposed to be able to buy the knight armor the 1st you visit the shop or did I over lvl)

I heard FF V & VI are great too but haven't heard almost anything about the first three?

The first three are like a proof of concept. Final Fantasy actually starts at 4 and ends at 10

They lowered prices of everything in the remakes of 1 so it's a lot easier to afford shit

The original NES/SNES games are typically harder than all later releases

The first 2 NES games are also extremely bugg y

In 2, there's tons of spells that either don't work, or you'd have to cast literally 100s of times USELESSLY before they become useful

4 US release is easier than original Japanese release

they're only easy if you grind

a lot of spells are bugged out in both. I think they fixed a few in the pixle remasters

If you played one of the ports that change up mechanics or nerf enemies, of course they're going to be easy.

the NES games are interesting, but not something I'd go back to over and over.
the SNES games are pretty good though, and my favourite is 5

The remasters are way easier than the original games. Balance isn't even remotely the same.

Then theres the 3D remakes of 3 and 4 that have insane difficulty jumps out of nowhere.

there was no insane difficulty spike in the 3D remake of 3. didn't play 4, so i can't comment on that one. but 3 was very straightforward.

I just replayed them both recently. 3 has a slight bump in a couple of places but the grind is fucking insane overall. 4 Had a big jump as soon as you hit the moon then another massive one like halfway through the final dungeon.

4 is fucking brutal with its regular encounters. You'll be hanging on for dear life getting through the cave of summons due to the sheer amount of shit that can just decide to game over your ass at the drop of a hat.

What version? I'm currently playing the PSP veraion and it's very easy

Also should I just play the original SNES versions instead of the remakes if I want the games to be harder? What about the NES versions, they are too buggy? Romhacks?

FF has never been known to be a hard series. Outside the original NES and maybe SNES releases, its pokemon babies first rpg tier. If you're looking for difficulty look elsewhere.

They're easy pretty much because you can grind and they were designed to be casualized versions of video game RPGs of the era. Wizardry, which is one of the main inspirations for JRPGs, had absolutely brutal difficulty.

there's some romhacks, ff4 ultima, been meaning to try it, looks fun. It enhances the game and adds more things to it.

What everyone else said about remake difficulty
But
I only played 1 and 6 (3US) and they were about right for a middle schooler who had time to grind
I never beat 1 though
If you want an RPG that’s hard for an adult with an Internet connection, you’ll want like a romhack or something modern
