why? The later ones are absolute dogshit but the setting is still extremely good and relatively unexplored. Plus there's lots of diamond in the rough still.

at least half the remaining oldfags of the scp community trooned out, and they and the new generation have been "rewriting" old classics to be less "problematic"

I've been on this site a long fucking time, I remember when 173 was just a creepypasta. I have seen the epochs of the scp community layer and calcify and be overtaken by new growth, time and again, and it's just sad now.
but it's been just sad for a long time, probably a decade at this point.

y'know they finally got around to removing the og images for 173 and 682, the former because the artist who made the sculpture got buttmad and the latter because, I shit you not, "they couldn't find the original image and thus have to assume they don't have the right to use it"

fucking hell it's a sad state of affairs

because SCP itself is a mess of community changes and random bullshit. You also likely can't claim copyright over most things, thus you can't protect anything you make. Its also just not a popular enough thing to get random kids on board. The concept is fine, but the brand is not. That's why you have all this shit like Lethal Company, REPO and even Dandy's World. Hell even Limbus Company and all that crap has its roots in it. Its SCP, but 100% owned by the creators.

90% of new shit is over explained garbage. The point of SCPs is a mix of mundane, bizzare and unknown. Emphasis on the last one. The monsters shouldn't have a motive, the artefacts a good idea what they do, it should be disturbing to think what's the real purpose behind them.

If you take out the unknown, all you're left with is either bizarre or mundane which isn't all too pleasant to read.

That being said I need SCP-1471-1 to sit on my face, thanks.

I like to call this the Cthulhu Mythos Problem.

OG Mythos: Hints at weird shit being connected, but little more than that
Modern Mythos: everything is documented and laid bare under harsh lighting, there is no mystery. Wiki Autists will detail everything and describe it to you in the dryest way possible.

When something unpleasant comes to carry the worshippers away to parts unknown in The Festival, it's creepy.
When someone starts playing a youtube Byakhee Lore Deep Dive to me it robs that scene of some of its horror.

It's not unique to the mythos, but I first noticed that things become less scary when everyone knows their motives and weaknesses and origins with regards to the mythos in the mid-10s, and this being done to a whole setting is the worst part of it.

what if the joy of it has been drained by what's happened to the franchise/IP/whatever since it first came out?
what if the audience won't enjoy it because it's all been made bland and unscary?

I know you CAN but it still won't hit the same.

I feel like more recent SCPs are lacking in redacted info. Especially for the more dangerous ones. They just tell you blatantly where in the world it is/who is connected to it/etc. I know from the beginning over-redaction was a trap to fall in but now it just seems they swung too far in the other direction.
