Did anyone actually care about different battle system for each character (stains, stances, foretelling, masks)? It was overdone and too complicated for me to care. I completed the game just doing generic attacks, random magic and parrying.

It was superficial because nothing in the base game, even on expert, actually pushes you to learn any team/lumina synergies. The only thing the game insists on you learning are the parry timings. And if you can parry well, any turn based stuff you wanted to do with the different styles will be rendered useless because the parries are the most OP tool in the game, save for the endgame setups.

When you do the side stuff, you're just deleting everything with endgame builds because the only alternative to using insane ones shot builds is to do 100 parries in a row.

It's a turn based game for nogs.

They didn't put much thought into anything related to gameplay and neither did I.

I like it but like >>715597996 said, it relies heavily on timing. As a 37 years old, my reflexes are not as great as before and I have trouble on expert difficulty but the game is too easy on normal so it's pretty frustrating to play actually.

I played on hard. The systems were pretty easy.
With the monkey brush dude you basically use the skill that is buffed at the moment.
Stains were easy for me since I basically had a defined order of actions as Lune no matter what I faced.
Stances were the best imo, you basically want to get to the purple one and then launch a big attack.
I don't like forestall and I almost never used the scythe bitch because she requires you to go "weak action->strong action->weak action" etc which was way too slow in hard for my taste. Maybe she's actually good, I didn't really delve too much into her movepool.

By act 2 I had Maelle one shoting everything with the rest of the party on rotation just for some variation.
Act 3 side content was a bit hard at first, but when I finally did Lumiere assault I was obliterating everything. Turning up enemy healthy on challenges didnt help either as I still had like bazillion turns for every turn the enemy mobs had

Pretty much what I did. Without truly learning the specifics of each system, just learned which attacks work well in certain situations and which don't, with a soft bias towards the buffed during each turn. Never bothered to learn for instance which attacks produce which stains, but if an attack is buffed by current stains I'm more inclined to use it.
