Yeah, it's unironically once of the best games I've played, and I've played vidya since the Atari 2600.

>>715603256
NTA but, gameplay, characters, story, atmosphere, visuals, music and cinematography are all 10/10. If you like games like Nier and FromSoft games, you'll love it. Just go in completely blind, and try to avoid spoilers.

no, people have simply been desperate for a JRPG-styled game that is actually made with taste instead of embarrassing japanese sensibilities
it's pretty good but nothing groundbreaking
the combat looks like something out of a mobile game and the story is too bloated despite the core being good

It's one of the better ones I've played in that regard though so maybe if you really enjoy the story you may be able to push through.

It's one of the better ones because the battles give you quick-time events to boost effects so it's not just menus.
There's a world map like the older Final Fantasy games, the passive skills are abundant and work like FFIX skill-system but when one is learned, everyone can equip it.
The story is pretty good, the characters feel well written with a real motive and you get used to/fond of the french mixed with the dialogue.
The artstyle is unique and matter of taste since I hated it at first but now I'm used to it, the enemy variety a little lacking and the shock value comes from lightweight Game of Thrones-esque death of characters who you don't really get to know.

It starts really strong but it slows down after you get Esquie. 8/10 imo.

Also to add, I only knew about the combat, the reason why they leave to fight the Paintress and that there was a world map and weird looking french monsters.
I was completely flabbergasted after leaving the town and realizing what kind of game this was.

>So it's doing nothing new or special?
Not really, but everything it does, has been implemented really well and don't feel like they've been shoved in. Spells and skills all have their own, static sequence which you will eventually memorize after using them enough. There's also unique combo mechanics for every character that add to the strategic aspect since you have limited spell/skill slots. Dodge and parry windows are pretty narrow even on normal, adding to the difficulty to the point of dying due to your reflex time being poor. Everything is static, though, so eventually you will win due to muscle memory.
>Doubt.
It's got lots of alien and fantastical themes and settings which makes the world itself feel like a painting. It's a new mash up of ideas and feels refreshing even if it is a story of saving the world.
>What artstyle? It's just UE slop.
I'm not talking about graphics, I'm talking about the design of the world, the monsters, the characters etc.

I haven't really played very many. I guess the last one was BG3 but before that it was years since I'd played one I think. Honestly, E33 might be the best one, the attacks look cool, there's some interesting synergy with the abilities, the menus are snappy to navigate, and the parrying kind of makes it more enjoyable. Even still, I just wasn't really having that much fun with it.

Gameplay isn't overly complex, just simple unique character mechanics and expanded from parry/dodge mechanics you might've seen from Mario RPGs.
Story/writing is also good. It doesn't feel like they ran out of time for the main story, they knew what they wanted to tell and focused on that.
Music is excellent
And most importantly, you can just do whatever. There are quite a few sidequests but you're never given an assignment sheet which is reminding you what kind of sidequests you didn't finish yet or what you're supposed to do.
