The ammo system single handed ruins the entire game. I wish Xcom did factions like this game did though.

Ammo is literally OG Xcom mechanic
Anyone who can't figure it out and praises nuCOM, is just a brasinlet.

Rather "no fun allowed" version of XCUM. Last time I checked - still with absurd scaling mechanics that force you to send squads to die from time to time or you will face literal bullet sponges.

It had potential to be better than X-Com but there was a lot of shit dragging it down. Having it so establishing new bases is pretty much just RNG, making new weapon more of side grades rather than upgrades, and the bullshit nature of some missions (defense missions where enemies start right fucking next to whatever it is you need to defend while you start on the other side of the map) really dragged it down. I liked the combat a lot more than nu X-Com at least. The free aim and projectile system just felt more natural than the pure percentage based system of Nu-Xcom.
The "modding" support felt like a massive kick in the balls. When they announced that their final update would add modding and workshop support I was expecting to be able to make new weapons, maps, enemies etc. but no. The "mod support" literally just consisted of an options menu that let you tweak some sliders around a bit to adjust shit like starting funds and scaling. That's not fucking mod support, that's just a custom difficulty option.
