the secret to being a successful indie dev is making multiplayer streamer slop games.

the secret to being a successful indie dev is to make shit that revolves around a single idea instead of ticking every fucking checkbox on the list provided by market analysis department and releasing a bloated open-world, poi filled, ue powered piece of shit

Steam is third worlder central, AAA makes far more money than cheap $5 asset flips

Cattle are easily cultivated when told that something can be fun if they play it with people that make things fun. I'm actually jealous that as an individual who is above the vast majority of those in this hobby from a sentience standpoint I've yet to exploit this.

Oh no they have secure jobs that pay them every day instead of crowdfunding or using your own money to hopefully make a hit game but most likely end up in the shovelware pile

Indie meme games are forgotten in a month.
AAA kinos are remembered for a lifetime.

I get having no one to play games with is tough but you don't have to lie to strangers to feel better.

None of these games will be played ten years from now. They are fads. Fads make money, why is this news?

This. People still play the old-school legendary classics like Assassin's Creed Odyssey and Horizon Zero Dawn to this day. Who tf is still playing indie Twitch fad game #9893838927?

AAA started ramping down in the mid-2000s and completely ceased in the early 2010s.
It is now purely a marketing term and a way to run severe administrative grift and confidence trickery, justifying continued investment and government grants, despite a complete lack of product delivery.
The completely bloated and unmanageable scope of these projects means that it is easy to lose oversight on whether anything is actually getting accomplished, while also ensuring that the amount that can be skimmed off the top is appropriately large.

They are literally cycled in and out to so that the company can appear forward thinking in their quarterly reports.

rockstar has to release gta6 and have it be the best game from recent memory with minimal bugs and amazing performance. thats the only way this "indie game good, aaa slop bad" mentality could be reigned back a little bit.

Because that's what gaming always was. Weirdos in their basement or garage making fun, creative, and innovative video games. Nintendo and Valve still make games like this which is why their games don't suck. Microsoft and Sony make AAA slop along with AAA third parties going by some shitty corporate standard.

AAA is expensive movies games
AA and indies are cheap and the most interesting
f2p games are just cosmetics and still make billions

AAA must die out soon
