the handheld era allowed sega to produce these games at a low dollar amount. building one in hd is substantially more money, and of course there are much greater expectations for iteration on the series for a console release.

it's just a hell of a lot harder to justify putting resources into etrian than other shit which they already know the hd dev formula for.

The obsessive need of AAA to make every game AAA budget is exactly why they're struggling so much. If they just made EO games at a smaller budget and smaller price they wouldn't have any issues. But given the price of the origins collection that probably won't happen.

At this point I even believe Capcom would make Megaman X9 first before Atlus release this thing.

That's not true at all, it wouldn't cost much more than usual for them to make a new one. The audience for this series doesn't care about cutting edge graphics and textures. The biggest issue was figuring out mapping with one screen and no stylus. Console or handheld makes no difference, a game is a game, fans just want a new game.

In less than two weeks it will have been 7 years since they posted that.

Yeah it's a shame they never figured it out. I hope some day they find a solution and then msybe they could port the first three games to console and pc as a proof of concept. Unfortunately I woke up in the worst timeline again.

They did figure it out though, it worked fine in the HD collection.

if they give up on self-mapping is it a huge loss? i played artificial dream in arcadia last year and didn't miss the self-mapping much at all. it's a nice to have feature, not a requirement. the problem is perhaps that it is one of the series special defining features and losing that might make it stand out less without a worthwhile replacement.

They don't need to give up mapping nor do I want them too, one-screen mapping worked well enough.
