I've replayed DS1 so many times and always try to ignore it to give other weapons a chance, but it's not only because it's strong, it feels the best to use as well, nothing else compares...

It's only a non-negotiable weapon in DS1
In DS2 an upgraded pulse rifle is just as good of a generic weapon or even better
DS3 all one handed weapons are trash and you get a 2 handed as soon as you can
