Is it feasible? What if I want to play the newest titles? MMOs? Windows is pretty grim. Also what distro?

So I've been researching this for a while now for the upcoming winpocalypse, and what I've gathered is:

If you have nvidia GPU, your mileage varies wildly, but most recommend taking the Bazzite pill.

If AMD GPU, you can literally do any distro you want as it has the greatest driver compatibility, but for beginners, Mint is a great start.

>Is it feasible?
Works on my machine, as they say.
>What if I want to play the newest titles?
Oh, sorry. I don't know. If I wanted to play the latest slop then I'd likely need to upgrade my PC regardless of operating system. I'd also need to stop having good taste.
>MMOs?
If your goal is primarily online gaming then you'll probably have a bad time, because publishers don't want to think about adequately covering another operating system with anti-cheat spyware. Based on what I've heard, anti-cheat for Linux isn't that good, and there aren't enough Linux users to justify the investment in making it good if that's even possible.
>Also what distro?
I use Linux Mint and others have already recommended that, but I haven't compared it to anything except Ubuntu, which I dropped almost immediately because GNOME is awful (and no, I wasn't prepared to switch desktop environments manually on day 2 of using Linux, which probably would have been more effort than just switching to a distro that comes with a good DE anyway).

>Is it feasible?
yep
>What if I want to play the newest titles?
if the game has anticheat, probably cant, single player games should work well though.
>MMOs?
ff14 and wow can be played on linux. i cant speak to korean slop mmos, the fisrt descendant worked when i tried it.
>Also what distro?
try a few and see if you like them. they all boot in VMs

>what distro to start with
Mint is good. Anything Debian based will do you just fine really like popOS or whatever.

Bazzite if your a gaymer and only a gaymer.
Fedora I've heard good things about.

Archbased distros will have the newest and bestest packages but can be buggy. I personally don't recommend it first but if you want it hop on in man, just be ready to read a wiki once in a while. It's not "hard" but some people don't want to fuck with that.

I still have windows on a separate drive for the occasional problem games but i really don't boot into it ever.

If you're a beginner, I wouldn't worry too much about these things for the moment. It's better to just try Mint or Zorin and get yourself acquainted with how the system generally works. You're gonna have plenty of time for distro hopping and at the end of the day, these choices are fairly minimal as far as performance goes.
But others have already answered your questions. It's possible to game, newest titles usually work fine and then get patched for better performance later on, MMOs depend on anti-cheat and then it's the same as above and Mint or Zorin are good bets to start out.

Using Linux works if you get ideological satisfaction from using it. If Linux is not your religion you're going to get tired of dealing with its bullshit very soon.

>Ubuntu, which I dropped almost immediately because GNOME is awful
ubuntu uses a heavily modified version of gnome with a dock, appicon indicatoors, desktop icons and the yaru theme.
vanilla gnome, that you'll find in fedora and arch, is very minimalistic and keyboard based.

>most MMOs ban linux
what are you talking about? on linux i've played guild wars 1 + 2, chrono odyssey, black desert, turtle wow, albion, throne and liberty, and pso2

the only thing i've tried that WOULD work on linux but won't start because the devs deliberately prohibit it was mecha break. worked in beta, stopped working on release

i think you mean "most competitive PvP games", like battle royals or valorant and stuff like that.

perfectly viable. steam deck paved the way. I've heard Mint is the best but I'm waiting for SteamOS to get a widespread desktop release to switch.
don't play ziv so not sure if your mmo will run on it, but it should tell you the steam deck compatability in the steam store. everything else works, wow gw2 lotro...
some competitive esports games don't run because of their anticheat, like riot games and fortnite. but valve owns counter-strike and dota2, the original esports, and they run on linux.

the main problem with mint is simply that's it's a small project that's based on a decade old version of gnome.
they really don't have the resources to keep up to date with modern standards. it's really only good for people that don't care about new features and just want to use a windows-like gui forever.
