Is a new Wario Land/Wario World possible? Is Wario stuck to Warioware forever?

Nah man I don't think anyone wants to play a game about smashing through walls to get gold so Nintendo would never make anything like that.

Nu-tendo would ruin it by making it open world.

I wouldn’t be surprised if pizza tower and antonblast’s success finally convinces them to make a new one.

bananza feels like it could have been a wario game but nintendo is too afraid to use wario for anything outside ware nowadays

Fine, just pizza tower’s, I still saw more discussion on both of these games than any other of these indie nintendo spiritual sucessors besides undertale if you consider that game a spiritual successor to earthbound

i will die on the hill that metroidvanias being such a successful genre pushed nintendo to keep metroid around as a prestige thing
and i will fight a minor skirmish near that hill that pizza tower's success makes nintendo more willing to reconsider a wario land game

Games have gotten too expensive to make for franchises like this to really exist. For example, Donkey Kong Country 1 on the SNES cost $250k to develop (after inflation!) whereas Tropical Freeze cost $12 million.

That being said, Nintendo did recently say they were going to scale back games to combat rising development costs. Optimistically this could mean lower-budget games and the resurgence of secondary IPs like Warioland but more realistically it just means more crunch so they vomit out the same slop in six months instead of twelve.

How about a 3D Yoshi's Island? We're kind of long overdue for that.

Those two games are inspired by Wario Land in some respects, especially at the beginning of their development, but they have distinct identities now. Pretty sure they've removed the "inspired by Wario Land" descriptor from their Steam pages too.

You can still clearly see the inspiration, especially in antonblast

Considering recent indies, there's certainly a potential audience today. But it's been over 20 years since WL4 and R&D1 is long gone, and /v/ perhaps being the biggest Wario Land fansite isn't a high bar either.

nah they're 2d, you can't make an open world 2d game without it being even worse than 3d open world games and not even appealing to normalfags. you could do a metroidvania style though, 3 already does that without an overworld and from what little i played of master of shit, it seemed like it tried to expand on that. unfortunately it was dookie in every other aspect but i'd love to see those ideas combined for wl6.

No it's because Sakamoto wanted to make more Metroid but couldn't find a team for it since R&D1 was disbanded

For the most part?
Yeah but EPD is stretched thin
There are some speculated management decisions that seem to suggest they're preparing for the building expansion but we don't know if Wario Land having its own dedicated team is one of them
