Why does it look and play better than 9/10 games that came out in the last five years?

Kojima's games have always handled excellently from a mechanical point of view.

There are many things you can criticize Kojima games for. Controls/graphics/UI/overall production value is not among them

The enclosed camps were some of the best parts.

MGSV is at its best when it's in large enclosed areas with some semblance of level design. Obviously Camp Omega, but stuff like the first two villages to rescue Miller, the Soviet airbase where you find Huey, the oil refining facility, the airport and OKB Zero are great. The 25 odd missions in the game that are just "fulton this prisoner from a camp that consists of three tents, some sandbags and a watch tower" are just lazy filler.

I remember someone saying "TPP is a fantastic 20 hour game padded out to a mediocre 60 hour one" and agreeing completely.

Because they forced La Creatividad to make an actual game instead of a movie with some walking sections
