i got one of these absolute piece of shit for 50 bucks at a thrift store. i feel like i overpaid. it's absolute trash. i was just gonna flip it but decided i'd at least play one game and see how it is, but i haven't even gotten that far because none of the 360 games i have appear to work with it, including ones that are specifically on their backwards compatible list, namely oblivion. so wtf? it's insane to me. i don't understand the appeal when half the library is just old games that they put in new packages while gimping the old copies you might own.

like i have a 360 copy of skyrim, even if the console doesn't support playing it from that disc, at the very least, it could use that to give me the xbox one version of the game since you know, I ALREADY OWN THE GAME.

The disc drives on the thing are built like shit. My Xbox One S I bought for the 4k bluray player died in under 2 years. Half the 360 games I'd stick in the system wouldn't be recognized and I'd have to try 5+ times sometimes to get an Xbone disc to register.

That's not possible. If it's on the list then you stick the disk in, press on the game's icon, and then it will ask you to download the game. The disk is just a check to download the backwards compatible version, it doesn't play off the disk.

Most of the Xbone disks have the games on them, you do not own a SeX, you have an Xbone X based on that image. There's very few disks that actually only have a download on them.

Because the BC isn't BC like Nintendo or Sony do it, it's an in-house emulator or translation layer that lets them do things like upscale the resolution, run at 60 FPS, etc. They also have to be made available to purchase digitally because you are playing digital copies of the games, not off the disk when you do BC meaning they have to relicense everything they make BC.

Sounds like your disk reader is faulty then because I own an Xbone X and SeX and neither have issues when I pop in Borderlands 2, Lost Odyssey, or Deadly Premonition.

That was their concession because it was a completely different situation under the hood. It's not like the PS3 could natively support PS2, it had to have a specific chip and anything on non-launch PS3s is emulating PS2 games (That you can download). Even then the BC is broken in so many games.

I'm pointing out that your games are on the disk for Xbone compared to a Series system. You are not downloading 80GB in the vast majority of cases, you are just downloading the patches which get to be ridiculous like in Gears of War and Halo's cases.

It's connecting to the 360 version of XBL. If you press start and select it opens up the 360 guide for example and you're basically just emulating an entire 360 on your Xbone or Series system. So if you play Borderlands 2 for example through BC it will only pair you with people playing BL2 via BC or on an actual 360, not the people who have the Xbone version.

yeah what i think happened is an employee priced it low and was scheming to buy it. i used to work at a thrift store and would do similar shit. price stuff low, tip off a friend to come buy it for me. it was sort of fortified behind a bunch of other stuff in a showcase, boxes stacked around it to keep it hidden. i got a oculus rift s there for around the same price before. i've not been a console user since 360 ps3 wii so the only way i'd get a chance to see for myself what it's like is if i got one like this for a steal, with the ability to flip it no issues.

I believe Elden Ring across all systems is on the disk. Games do not play off the disk on any modern system because Bluray read speed is slower than installing it even to an HDD. It's why tons of PS3 games had options to install directly to your hard drive instead of play off the disk.

Correct. You still have to go through the paid subscription to play anything. The only thing they did was a few years after the Xbone's release they stopped cloud saves from being tied to Gold. Prior to that you had to pay just to use your 360 saves on your Xbone, it was beyond stupid.

i really feel like 15 a month for standard XBL is just insane. it's one of the biggest things that made me never play xbox, and also stop playing playstation after the ps3. but i guess i sort of understand it from the business side, once the unit is sold they want some steady income to support it. i've just never seen the appeal over a good PC which is capable of so much more without the need to insert coins into it to fully use it.

Because under the hood it's got different stuff going on that you can't just port over easily. That's why they need translation layers.
