One of the main issues I think is that James Bond stole the whole idea for Foxdie, so how the fuck are they going to come up with something that isn't that and still makes sense? It's one of the big twists of the game.

That version of the movie is dead, they have been talking about it for like a decade. I'm pretty sure he began to leak concept art for it to stoke fan engagement so he could pressure someone into funding it. If Sony pictures is giving kojima a film it only makes sense if it's a big pre existing IP, metal gear is the only option. There's no one better suited to direct the metal gear film than kojima himself.

This version's never getting made lad, a script hadn't even been finalized yet and this was years ago.
Don't forget Avi Arad tried getting a Metal Gear movie (with a script by David Hayter no less) off the ground in the 2000s with either Christian Bale or Hugh Jackman starring and it went nowhere as well.
